Does anyone know if you can buy any type of bracket that can be fitted to an old school bike but will give you the lugs to fit new school brakes onto it?
Got an old CW Freestyler that i'd like to fit new centre pull brakes on but not quite sure how i could get round it.
And i really don't want to go welding bits onto the frame....
Cheers,
Lloyd.

I think you need a U or V brake plate
single bolt to frame and plate has canti posts fixed to it

bastard. im gonna think about that scrollin song every time i do it now.

yeah the plates work ok but you have to use jubilee clips as well as the centre bolt to stop the plate flexing

i just bought a u brake plate. it will not flex. its 5mm thick and weighs more than the forks its going on ( almost ;) )
i had one before on my redline rl240 back in 96. they work fine.
the v brake ones however do require jubilee clips. they look awful too - huge! get a u-brake plate and nice dia compe brake. sorted. dont forget to run a good lever too!
-
The plate itself shouldn;t bend, but you may find the through bolt or brake bridge will give. Clips or at the very least thick zip ties recommended.
-
i want to mount a u brake plate on the rear of a mongoose cali
where / how can i mount the cable (before the centre pull thingy) ???
is there a "thingy" i can buy?
-
Another option may be too :
get a pitbull calliper from cyclesport.co.uk - £7ish
kinda inbetween new and old - single bolt fixing and centre pull power
or get a ACS boa they will stop a truck
-
I guess the thingy you need would be an odyssey pozistop
-
its not the plate that flexes but the fact that its only connected by a bolt at the top....the lugs are nr the bottom....therefore the old fulcrum/lever effect comes into play....believe me you need to jubilee clip it...or as san says zip ties...although i used one of these plates on rhys's last bike and he was forever snapping zip ties...

Cheers for the link. Could these be used for both front and back brakes????

Here you go, an example of the set up at the rear.
You will need a pozistop (look at the seat clamp) it's a cable hanger integrated into the seat clamp.Probably need to get one from the USA. OT cycles has one in blue for about £12. You need to buy a specific front brake for the front as the cable will come into i from the side not the centre. An Odyssey Evolver comes with all the stuff for front or rear, as does a Primo E Brake, but Hombre's are specific for front or rear.Â

Sandro.
SORT THEM DECALS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
