Title: stupid question

having just got back in to bmx after bout 15 years i changed my back sprocket and axle
when i went to fit the wheel back on the frame it was a bout an 1" each side to the drop outs
when i tightend the wheel it drew the dropouts in towards the wheel. is this right or am i stupid stupid stupid.

apologies but i havent touched a bike since godknows when

would bolts do as spacers?? ie bolt each side of the dropout?

if its the right size, then i would say why not, but you can get specific axle spacers, that look a little less unsightly than the nut method
