Title: 80's piranha new restoration find.
Post by: Blueylad on February 08, 2019, 05:11 PM
[attachment=1][attachment=1] hi guys I got this Piranha 85' for eBay as my new project can't wait to get a start on it. Does anyone know what stem they had on them, I had one as a youth but can't remember all j know it was the same as this find so I'm buzzing.

Nice find mate...most on here will probably tell you top clean it and leave it as is....
What are your plans for it? It has some nice parts i.e Aero Zytec mags. Get a pic of the stem up close and someone will be able to identify it  :daumenhoch:

Retrodan72 built a nice one of these, i am sure he will be along with a pic soon...
It really does look in good survivor condition...
If you decide to restore it fully all the resources are here, paint, decals etc just ask.

Hi mate, great find. I’d say that the stem you’re after is a silver (alloy) Suntour copy. I’m just basing this theory on what mine had and that was an ‘85. Using the same theory, you should have silver rat traps, although I swapped mine for bear trap types.

Sound I've been eyeing a suntour stem but it's a blue one will keep my eye out, and your bang on the money with the rat traps I remember them well now smashing off my shins  :crybaby: will probs go for the bear traps aswell.

Now i9s your chance to upgrade all the parts you couldn't bitd!! get a genuine power stem if thats what you want although they are a little overpriced these days. alans do a nice copy for decent money. The ACs stoker is also nice and cheaper than a genuine suntour power stem. you might want to do a potts mod while you are at it ( front cable through a hollow stem bolt)
Forget the rat traps too they look and feel awful...especially when smashing into your shin!! i would get some cheap  DX copies or something like a KKT RMX which are cheap enough, or there are some white Royce plastic Gafite copies on ebay for cheap ...like a tenner!

Oven Pride will remove the red annodising then you can tidy the ends up if you so wish....or just buy some beartraps, they are dtill pretty lethal if you slip a pedal!
