I`ve had this idea for a while ... I`ve got an old Firebird frame in the loft but the forks went missing years ago . I don`t expect to ever find any replacements so I thought why not make some ugly freestyle forks out of something easily available ?
I got these for free locally : NOS Raleigh Burner I believe , they are only steel but the bike won`t be ridden so they are ideal ...
-
Right , let`s drill some holes ...
-
No going back now ! I cut some tube and made a quick mock up .
This is the look I`m going for ...
-
The finished pegs ... they are made from an old shop fitting I had kicking about .
-
Okay , I`m happy with that . I welded up the holes in the dropouts ( they are going to get a bit of a reshape ) and tack welded the pegs to the forks just to check everything was working . A quick check with a test wheel as well ...
-
That is as far as I got this weekend , if anyone is interested in this and wants to see more progress pics I will put some more up ...
-
Great work even if it’s little unorthodox :daumenhoch:
-
Yes please, they look good so far :)

Good skills there fella :daumenhoch: I thought you were gonna make some Dp forks from scratch for a minute there  I've actually seen some forks on a shopper bike or something that actually looked like the firebird forks until they got to the bottom where they bolted to the wheel? but with those skills you could maybe chop and change them,I'll try to find them :)

Keep it coming mate... :daumenhoch:

Definitely mate . I`ve also got an 85 GT Performer with missing forks ( where did all my forks go ? ) so I`ll be on the lookout for other scrap / unwanted forks to experiment with .
Cheers for the comments guys :)

Cant beat a bit of home brew :daumenhoch: in 30 years time some poor bugger is gonna have a real hard time tracking down the make of these forks ;D

Checking with a wheel ...

Sorry about the double picture ^
Welding done , quick coat of etch primer ...

Next I wanted to reshape the dropouts . I think it looks ok ...
-
Next the forks need a Potts mod cable guide . And painting when I`ve decided what colour . I`ll get some pictures when I`ve done some more ...
