Title: HLT. Bars question ?
Post by: oldscool on February 18, 2019, 03:06 PM
Does anyone have any pics or spec on Harry Leary bars. Only reason I ask is I bought a rough Diamond Back pro,I think it is anyway a good few years ago. I have just pulled it out of the barn to do something with. Anyway pulled the grips of and there was a dark brown black residue under the grips , I thought this was grip glue at first that had gone dark over the years but there are remains of it under the crossbar.

HLT bars have a small drill hole near the end of the left bar end. I believe this was for hanging the bars for the smoke chrome process.

Lots of bars did that especially if they were anodised or painted as you said...

Not sure if any longer relevant. Do you have the drilled hanging hole as this is a quick easy check along with dims as different sizes produced over the running years. Are they uncut? That's your starting, then obviously smoked residue

There is smoke residue but they have gas release holes under crossbar.

Post a picture of the bars, that should help with narrowing down what they might be.  :daumenhoch:

Try the Tapatalk app, Paul recommended it to me and it makes uploading pics a doddle  :daumenhoch:

Corrrect me  if Im wrong but a Diamond back Pro is not the same frameset as a HLT .
But the Senior pro is similar to the early 1st run of large gusset (of which there are two geometrys of large gussets) but the serial would have to be about 2E onwards  . Different geo and forks on the Pre 82 Pros.
Just a heads up in case   :)  :daumenhoch:

Early Pro (that came with dual dropout forks), aka Large Pro there were two variants...the very early ones were based on the MX and were modified in several areas soon after production started by Koizumi in late 1978 and by early 1979 had been replaced by the more common variant.

Senior Pro and HLT exact same frame and forks, both pre and post leverage versions.

Bars were small, medium, medium oversize and large, HLT bars had a custom bend and there were several variations of them too, mainly the width.

That's really interesting to know! :daumenhoch:
