What happened to the BMXA tester,is he still in the game... ???
-
He was at the bournemouth 25th meeting in 2005
-
Yep, and he still hops on a bike. I think I raced at one of the Braintree club nights last year and he was riding with Schoey and maybe Vince.
-
Sid was at the 25th Anniversary meeting at Bournemouth last year & raced his VRP 24" Quad cruiser ( purchased from Mark Wallace / Dingo prior to the event ) and was rippin' it up with SE kit etc etc :daumenhoch: .
I spoke to him that weekend & he is a genuinely nice guy & was buzzin' that weekend .
A lot of ex BMXer's turned up to the 25th Anni , Ruffs , Slater , Shooter , Reynolds , Sid , Schofield , Maloney , Vince , etc etc etc :4_17_5:

I plucked up the courage to speak to him at Bournemouth and he was a really nice bloke, i was whittering on about him riding all those bikes and asking questions and stuff and he didnt mind a bit. :daumenhoch:
-
As Matt said he beat me to Dingo's VRP Quad last year. :(
Best looking bike on earth :daumenhoch:
-
He raced at Braintree last year in the evenings with Vincey as mentioned above, apparently at one of the nights they almost came to blows after a race........f*ck knows what they would be like at a national, let alone just the wednesday night roll around......was good for the young kids to look up to 2 former well respected riders though........not!!!! :2gunsfiring_v1: :angrysoapbox: !!!!!

I got chance to race against him at Bournemouth last year and it honistly was a real honour. I had posters of him on my bedroom wall when I was a kid, and when i finally met him he was a top bloke. :daumenhoch:
Here's a picture I took of him at some show in the mid 80s.

Thats Chris Simmonds number plate in the Diamond Back colours, he lived
quite near to me wonder what hes doing now.
-
As everyone here has already said he is a top bloke and well friendly.
It was mad the 1st Wed night I turned up there at braintree though, some bloke asked for a go on the Quad which I happily obliged, then got catching to Craig on the start gate and realised that it was Sid on my bike.
Racing at Braintree summer 05 was like racing super class in the 80's with Scofield, Jamie Vince & Sid. Sid was fast and could still jump some but didn't have the fitness anymore as he was often found dying in his Dodge Ram when he was meant to be racing his 3rd moto.

i think sometimes we forget just how good those o/s legends were.i know its all tail whips and backflips now but pics like these just make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.look at the height he's getting off a little ramp like that, and he lands it flat on a bike not known for its strength.awesome.he landed on me at bournemouth as well.
-
He also did the Ford roadshows in the 84 . He landed on a car when he tried to jump it and they had to put a sunroof in it. It was a brand new car.
He was a really nice bloke bitd but I only met him once at a meeting for all the ford show riders. Sid got bollocked :daumenhoch:
-
I remember Sid doing a Ford show near me in 84, & breaking a graphite skyway when he jumped the car. I thought that it was Tony Slater who they wouldn't let jump the car after he landed on one. :-*

Like you all are saying, a top bloke. I had nothing to do with BMX but new him as a drinking mate and I done him big time in a Pro Kart enduro. Went to his wedding and he then moved out Burnham way and I moved to Leigh on sea. Not seen him for about 10 years but would love to.
-
As I said earlier on, me and Sid allways rode hard against each other especially at Rom,
Sam "nishiki14" found this pic, Its of me at Rom and Im sure its Sid in the skin tight jeans. The bike im on is my ACE frame that I remade after snapping it, the blue on the front is hammerite, the budget was a bit tight back then....

So, has this turned into an official Sid hunt? My mate had a PK, then bought the CW Cruiser he tested in BMX Monthly, or whatever it was called. He may still have it somewhere...
-
It wasn't a black PK with Gold lettering was it.
-
No, he had a standard unpainted one, but Sid tested the white CW Cruiser in the mag, my mate rang up and bought it for his Mum - she used to race it!
-
I must be sad, it's Friday night, and I'm replying to myself (I have an excuse uploading some great clobber on our website www.theglade.com - register for the newsletter to get first dib dobs on some wicked new apparel).
So, has anyone found Sid yet??!!
