Title: Mongoose Motomag decal question
Post by: Nosnod on October 02, 2006, 07:50 PM
Just starting on the restoration of a 1981 Mongoose Motomag. It has just come back from the powdercoaters in a nice candy red. Got one of Bill's repro decal sets and was wondering if I should use the Motomag decal to be era correct for 81? Up to 1980 the Mongoose decal was generally on the top tube with the motomag decal on the down tube.
Saw this ad from a 1981 Bmx Plus which seems to show that the Mongoose decal had moved to the down tube and the Motomag decal had disappeared!
Anyone shed any light on this ??

the decal was moved to the downtube as the pad obscured it

i guess as a general rule, run the mongoose sticker on the toptube for non stepped dropouts, and on the downtube for stepped dropout models

unlike that hoopty repro mongoose anniversary thing which had the decal in the wrong place

here's my goose with decals

but note i got the mongoose sticker the wrong way around - red goes to the front ;)
