I have built some 20 x 1 3/8th wheels for a mini and put them on at the weekend, with tyres mounted the front runs very close to the steerer tube on the fork.
I presume sew ups would be smaller and leave more clearance, but before I go down that route I want to know if the old tyres are available in colours? I'm looking for blue ideally - anyone know?
Cheers
Paul

Actually, look at the Race Inc that Bodamus put together, my clearance looks about the same at the front.

Frosty I got the tyres on my Race Inc from Alans £15.99 the pair inc P+P they are Panaracers 20 X 1 3/8 they are really nice tyres almost snakebelly like in style. I say there is enough clearance to get away with it.
From bodamus ;)

There is not a lot of clearance on my Robinson mini either, but it only needs a couple of mm :daumenhoch:

1.1/8THS WILL HAVE A SMALLER PROFILE, AND STILL FIT THE 1.3/8THS

You'll only be able to run sew-ups if you have sew-up rims, they won't work on a regular 1 3/8th rim as the tyres will be a larger inside diameter and they need a surface to be glued to so the inner rim on a sew-up sits a lot higher with the spokes/nipples recessed (which is why the tyre is slighty larger on the inside diameter).

Thanks all,
I think I will stick with it for the moment. I have NOS yellow label comp III's on it in 1 3/8th's, but have some nos 1 1/8th in black too but didn't think they would fit on the wider rims. I'll change one over and see what it looks like.
Just waiting on the brake lever to complete the build and I'll post piccy's.
