Hi peeps.
I've bought myself a Haro Sport 84 off of eBay which came in a bit worse condition than it looked like in the photos.
Anyway I've stripped the bike to start again and have had it resprayed with a new sticker set from Vert Ego. I've purchased a pair of new school sealed Flight cranks and am probably getting some sealed Skyways to boot.
Now I'm trying to decide which headset to get. I would ideally like a sealed bearing headset for easy maintenance. I have thought about the following and after some research have come to the following conclusions:
Hatta MX10 - keeps coming loose and unsealed but truly old school
Beartrap 2 - stays together better but still unsealed
Hatta Kongo - sealed but from the comments on this site it's not very good quality and after some measuring it won't fit properly
Chris King - not sure whether to get the 2Nut or GripNut? Sealed and expensive but my budget can stretch
Tange 125 - unsealed again but stays together well?
Can anybody think of any other makes of headsets that would fit my frame/forks that is sealed other than the CK or Kongo.
Also, any opinions of the 2Nut/GripNut would be greatly appreciated - especially if you have a Sport yourself!
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Get some pics up, and welcome - mines a Stella :D

Diamond back one from Halfords.
Chrome, they work quite well and old school look
Spend the money saved on buying proper tuffs :)

If it's just for riding you can't go wrong with one of these and they only cost £3.49. Actually picked one up on my way home today :daumenhoch:

yep, thats about right, and only about 12 quid......but if cheap is what you want then halfords db ones are ok too

mightynimrod - will get some pics up as soon as I get it back from Biaggio. :-) Your beer is probably a bit stale now. LOL
Money is not really a concern so I'm not looking for something as cheap as the Halfords one but thanks for the heads up.
Beartrap 2 seems very popular here - however I am really looking for something sealed. I think the Chris King is my only option I can think of and find.
Anyone used GripNut or 2Nut?
Thanks peeps!

Did you ever get yourself a Chris King?? I've been trying to source one but seems Evolution Imports via Bromley Bikes only get the standard 1" threaded version which has a 30.1mm head tube bore size whereas the OS frames need the "BMX" version with a 32.7mm cup. If you got one, where did you get it from please?? Humps

My opinion is if you can afford it, go for a Chris King, best there is and you won't regret it!
-
Peen.....build it up with a cheap one mate as you'll ride it a few times....then realise you want to buy a newschool to ride and then leave the OS Haro to gather dust until a cruise comes along :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the replies on this subject guys. I resurrected the thread after searching to see if anyone had raised it recently and this was the best I could find. I'm in dialogue with Chris Kings direct now and they're hopefully going to get me sorted with one of their fine products before too long. It's a pitfall I nearly fell into when bidding on the Bay for a blue one - I just hadn't appreciated there were two sizes for the 1" threaded headsets, d'oh!! If all else fails then the "Buy It Now" off the link above looks a great idea if it doesn't attract import duty. Humps

:crazy2: oh i didnt look at the dates ,i thought peen was back :-\ :crazy2:

Hey dudes. :D
Thanks for the concern ZED! :) I'm a-okay! Just been a bit busy! How odd I should randomly come across this thread again. :uglystupid2:
As for the Chris King, yes I did go for a black one on my build. You do indeed need the 1" BMX threaded one with a 32.8" cup skirt diameter. See: http://www.aspirevelotech.com/Reference/CupSkirt.htm
I went with the above company (Aspire Velotech - they have an eBay and web shop). They were great, John was extremely helpful. It was a bit of a tight fit on my 84 Haro Sport I hear, however so were the sealed bearings for my Flight cranks. (Biaggio pressed both in for me when he was powder coating my frame and said they were a b*tch to get in). :2gunsfiring_v1:
Also, pickle is pretty much spot on - the King is way over kill for a show bike or just an old school "rider". Originally I was going to spend £150 on my old school build, that turned into £350 initally, followed by about double that getting it perfect (repowdered, repro stickers, all NOS or cleaned components, sealed bearing everything). And pickle is also right, it just sits around gathering dust. It is too perfect to ride! :-\ I am worried about scratching it, or snapping it. :LolLolLolLol: It is a nice ornament for the room though, but I can see myself in the future selling the parts on and either getting a new school or a mountain goat that's made to be abused. So yeah, I wish I had listened to the peeps on here that say keep the old bikes for show, and new bikes for riders. :LolLolLolLol:
However if you got the dollar, they are an excellent quality headset! You pay for what you get - they probably are the best headsets money can buy.
Here are some pics of the completed build (left - White Haro Sport). :D
