Title: Brake Calipers and Levers
Post by: mightynimrod on October 21, 2006, 09:05 PM
Just a quick question, if i bought some NOS calipers and levers in a color i don't want, can i just strip em back to metal and have em silver???

If so whats the best way to do it?

Is it better to get them polished too?

Ones i'm thinking of are MX1000's.

Cheers

Steve

What if theyre pink, it's usually paint isn't it?

Will oven pride work on this or should i use nitromors?

Cheers

Depends if they are painted or anodised.  If painted simply nitromors them, wash in vinegar then warm soapy water, autosol and a wax and you're done.  If they are anodised, use Oven Pride cleaner (about £2.5 in Aldi), then  wash in vinegar then warm soapy water, autosol and a wax.  as it's a lot safer than caustic soda and easier to use.  To remove the DC sticker warm it with a hair dryer then using a stanley blade lift in one corner and remove.  When polished, re-apply the sticker with some suitable adhesive.

A mate of mine tried using nitromors & oven pride on the pink mx 1000s last night.

Apparently it didn't do a thing :(

He said he chucked the caliper in the yard with the dog shit in a huff.  :LolLolLolLol:

The dog shit did'nt work at all, gutted ;) Afraid the finish is powder coating and the only way I know to remove that is to either shot blast but then I'll end up been given my brakes back in a very small bag or sanding which is a major ball ache.
