Title: Finished - My Trickstar
Post by: jstring on November 06, 2006, 02:48 PM
OK - posting the pics took longer than restoring the bike but here goes!!!

Firstly many thanks to all of you who offered me help advice and parts, especially Jimwise and Mattdub.  I think I would have given up without this site!!!

This is my childhood bike.  Unforgivably, I allowed to deteriorate in my garage after my daughter was born but now it lives again.

Generally is is as I pulled it out of the garage but it has a few subtle newer parts because it is a regular ride and not just for show. These include the Odyssey frequency tyres, a sealed BB and a linear cable on the front potts mod (I wanted to try one and it works really nicely!)

Specs are:

USA Trickstar F&F
Action Zone bars - I love these, although I have read some derogatory comments on here!
GT stem
Beartrap II headset (I could still use your help Twobobrob - if you are reading this!)
Ame tri grips
Tuff IIs with coaster
Sugino chain wheel
Tagagi 1pc cranks (I still can't afford a 3-piece!)
Shimano SX pedals (soon to be replaced with a set of DXs that I am restoring)
Dia Compe Tech 77 levers with Potts II
Mk1 Odyssey gyro
MX1000 rear
FS880 front
Skyway freestyle pads

I hope that you like it.  I know that the black isn't original but who cares when it looks soooo good.  I'll try to post some better pics soon (presuming that these ones work OK)

Nice job mate I love a Trickstar but I agree I would change the Tyres for something more oldschool like Comp ST, Comp Pools or Panaracer Freestyle.

Still very nice though :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

I take your point about the tyres and suggestions for more period correct replacements are welcome.  Be warned though I have grown to quite like these tyres any replacement should look similar (all black) be capable of at least 80psi (these things take 110 psi!!!! - I dont remenber many old tyres doing that) and absolutely not have a horrible knobbly tread.

I like them black hard and smooth

looks good with the action zone bars and if you going to ride bike then keep the tyres as old skool ones are poor and even more so with tuffs
