ratty, not a bad idea, what with pics and storys, we could write a book ;D
get this, some afternoons if there was no racing going on the riders at rom could
have been, me, pat, billy, pikey, marko, errol, john stockwell, chris young, sid saulsbury, craig schofield.
kieth wilson, niel ruffel, rob steel, even andy ruffel, and thats no joke, any given weekend
you could have had these riders turn up and we'd all just do our stuff and have a laugh, happy
days 8)

I think you should do it. You have plenty of material and I'm sure everyone on here would like to hear the stories.
-
I was over there for every race meet, as well as anytime i could afford the train fare from walthamstow.
Shame Don Smith has passed away, he could have written it for you, as he wrote the first uk bmx book back in the early 80s.
It could show how much things have changed, or not as in the case of your riding Dan.... :daumenhoch:
-
a book
is an ace idea
it would be huge in content
best coffee table book ever :4_17_5:
"the rom years" :daumenhoch:

dan you got painted orange hubs on them tuffs?
-
ace pics dan
-
Very cool pics... what's the deal with the hubs?
-
as we worked at superbike, alot of bikes came with a annodizing paint kit bit like nail varnish so we always kept them and modified our bikes
-
as we worked at superbike,
Arma and Dan, I heard that when ACE racing went skint all the left over ACE stuff went to superbike and was rebadged and sold cheap!
Dont spose you know if any survived? I would love one
-
yup all the ace frames we picked up was a full luton vans worth keith the owner had half of them sprayed in 2 colours red and blue and the other half chromed then we put the SB racing stickers on and sold them on as superbikes own.

I lived for Rom, my weekend started with a 5 mile ride to Woolwich Arsenal train station, jump on the train to London Bridge, either in the guards van with the bike, or as close to it as possible with my address labels on the handlebars, then ride from there to Liverpool St. station, then on the train down to Romford station, then ride up from there to the mecca that is Rom for opening time, that I think was 9 o`clock back then, then ride all day to 6pm and start on the reverse journey home.
Then it was Sunday the next day so the same journey started again, happy days :daumenhoch:
To be honest what spoiled it was getting sponsored, because then I was all over the country every weekend doing demo`s so I didn`t get the chance to go, and when I did get a break all I wanted to do was go up the pub and clubbing it with my mates :(
