Are there any makers marks or points I should look out for when buying 80's Landing Gear forks for my PK? Dont want to get 90's ones or copies by mistake!!
-
not alot to look for .unstamped to be sure, but then as people where copying them
they made the stamped version .threaded 1" of couse but just ask if you see any on net.
-
some of the forks had a stamped logo in the angled (bologna) cut on the bottom of the legs, these were the later forks! 83 or 84 onwards (not 100% sure on exact time these were released) this was done to identify genuine forks over the many copys being made :police:
also genuine ones will have just 3 holes in the dropouts, bigger near the axle slot/hole & getting smalleer as the dropout tapers into the fork leg. often the copys had an extra hole for a wheel retaining tab!
welding wise they should be welded all the way up the outside of the dropout but have 3 welds on the inside edge, Top Bottom & middle for about a centimetre each ;)
threadless will be stamped & much later
generally people want unstamped :daumenhoch:
i'll see if i can find some pics

splendid info thank you. theres a pair of chrome ones on ebay at the moment that seem to match up ok, but he says they are threadless, does this mean there are no threads for the headset to screw onto???

They look thrreaded in the pic :idiot2:
-
well if like the owner says they are threaded then they wont fit an oldschool bike anyway as they'll be "Inch &1/8th"
if you need forks for an old bike you need to look out for 1 inch threaded!
preferably unstamped too ;)
