i'm not a fan of the later burners but the old ones stir up memories!!!
is your "daily ride" a burner? i mean do you hit up the bowls on the ultra?
-
As usual beard, lovely attention too detail.
I love the care u take right down to the correct picture angles.
My ultra is ready for building up (just waiting for the correct forks :) ) orb?...also got a heron badge last nite.
Sorry didn’t make it too the bash, I was originally collecting parts from radmans and going on too the bash..but the parts weren’t ready, so I never made it…been closer too Blackburn then I’d loved to have gone.
-

I have a Mk2 Cromo that I would call my 'daily ride'... though I did build the 'orange' beard1973 Burner as a daily rider...
Never more than a casual rider, so never hit the bowls... though I guess its never too late to start!! ;)

Lovely builds Beard - you do go the whole mile and it's good to see 'em!

Thanks Stodgy... Appreciate your comments! ;)

I'm with TheRuler with Burners, like the early ones but the later areo style ones didn't do alot for me.
Round my way (me included) the only original part Burners had on them were Tuffs, the rest was all copy stuff :) council estates hey, don't you just love em! :)
My MK1 GS ended up snot green with blue Z rims, then blue tuffs......copy CW bars (yes they all ended up with them!) ;) but how i loved it!! :D
Hated it though when you used to see kids riding around with the bars all the way back, or forward.....used to really wind me up! >:(

without sounding mean to burners, the reason i dont like the mk2's is this:
when i first got into bmx at 10 years old, any old unbranded crap would do. everyone had a burner, or an iron horse, or some piece of shit from a petrol station. but after a year or so of being into it, reading the mags, seeing the good bikes, we knew what was good and what was baloney. raleigh jumped on the aero tube bandwagon, and it just seemed corny.
however good the mk2 burner was, "burner" always meant cheap poorly designed bikes to us, so not many were into them (compared to the hoards of people on mk1's).
times are different now. don't matter what's cool and what aint.
i remember riding a mk2 super tuff burner when i was about 13 (a friends bike)
it was a weighty giant rigid thing. it confirmed my view (at the time) of burners.
i'd like to try one now i am bigger (and stronger!) and see what they really ride like.
can't fault the workmanship on those burners though beardy boy.
whats the toptube length on the mk1's btw? i remember them being super small (and thats when I was super small!)
-

Cheers Ruler...!! ;)
Oh and scary_leary... Its Beard.! Not Bread.!....
It was funny once... Now your offending my beard!! ;D
-
although i remember seeing marvin "540" browne on a mk2 burner on bmx beat, i dont remember ever seeing anyone compete on a mk1 burner.
and for some reason, mk1 burners make me think of kids with really big heads.
if i see one i will buy it though!
yo breadbeard do you consider the mighty raleigh vektar as a collection piece?
a kid over the road from me had one, the same time i had my fox 4styler.
it had a radio!
mind you i had GT wheel discs. we were both fruity on so many levels
-
I wouldn't collect Vektars but I know a guy who does!! :D

bet you use daz on them pads!
love the decals on the orange burner
good job bro.
was there ever a cromo mk1 burner, in that shape?
-
Mk1 Cromo... Not mine (sadly)
-
but not in the shape of the gusset one?
there's a project for ya.
copy a mk1 burner frame, using 531 tubing, so it looks burner, but is strong and light.
better yet - do it in aluminium. what a repro that would be.
-
My build skills are limited... But its an interesting idea!! ;)
-
i bet you have a mk1 burner frame or 2 spare that you could carefully cut up to make patterns
before you cut them, make jigs.
then buy the material and find a good welder!!!
you would be the burner lord.
-
Its a cool idea... be a one off thats for sure...!!
If I was to undertake that project.. I would give u some recognition for proposing the idea! ;)
The Burner Lord... I like it...!! :D
-
Hey Beard - let's see a pic of the whole collection together...how many have ya got now? The builds I've seen of yours are some of the best of any brand and you should be very proud of what you have achieved.
Seeing the Burner pics really brings some strong memories/emotions back - my first BMX was a Super Burner (with a lovely flaky gold finish)...learning endos and wheelies...oh, happy days! :)
I agree with you that the Burner bashing really needs to stop. Raleigh bought BMX to the masses and has to be responsible for the explosion of popularity in the early 80's.
It's companies like Raleigh, with all their corporate spend, who are able to build markets which can then sustain the smaller niche brands. So, by building bikes with huge economies of scale and passing those savings to the customer, they encouraged people to 'sample' the sport before investing heavliy in trendy brands.
We all have a lot to owe to Raleigh - most people on RadBMX must have owned one at some point and, after all, where would we be without Andy Ruffell, Sam Woods on the mic and all those early Burner pics in Action Bike and on the TV?
Come on guys, give the bashing a rest and appreciate what Beard and the rest of the Burner boys are doing. None of you can deny the passion and attention to detail that goes into these builds.
-
burn 'em off with a burner

Bits are so hard to find now, as everyone will agree, and most bits are running out fast or ALL GONE!! :(
Thanks for your praise on my builds.. Having seen your amazing collection it comes as a Real compliment..

Any good to ya?
-
Thanks Stodgy...
I do an hourly scan of eBay for all things burner!! ;)
Sad... I know... :D
-
The builds are very good and I'm in no way am criticising them - but I really do not like burners, too heavy and with some of the worst geometry ever seen on a BMX bike; as for building one out of good materials wouldn't that be a waste of tubing?
Seriously good job on the builds, of course it is each to their own.
Has anyone done a build showing how the burner would have been set up for everyday riding with huge CW copy bars set waaaaaay forward, eeww, it make me shudder at the thought.
-
blah blah blah.... :-X
-
