Title: ACS RL edge wheels
Post by: clonerz on December 05, 2006, 11:43 PM
Can anyone tell me any info about these wheels, i have just found a beautiful pair, and they have a ACS hub in the back with an RL sticker on it. Now they seem to have a feecoaster freewheel on them too. Anybody use these back in the day, and any info on then is appreciated, ( i never seen a pair before!).

I had a pair, with the free coaster hub that you could switch to a coaster. The rims had a concaved spoke face and were sort of anodised grey. The brakes didnt really work that well on them and they were single wall and were soon covered in dings (that cracked the anodising). I eventually swapped them for super pros and never looked back

mmm, these ones dont actually have a coaster brake in the hub, its just that if you do a rollback the pedals stay level, they dont rotate backwards like on a normal freewheel. If you then give it a little click backwards it spins backwards just like a normal old school freewheel did. Theres definetly no coaster brake though. Weird.

It's a free coaster , a coaster with the braking mechanizum taken out in some way ....

Free coasters are very popular again now with the new school street kids who want to fly down stairs backwards.

My RL hub had little screws on the freewheel body. When ingaged, the hub was a coaster, and when open it was a free coaster. It was an OK coaster but a crap free coaster.

sounds like it is an RLhub ,which was the first freecoaster hub . the hub with the two dials is an acs freecoaster ,when dials are turned changes from coaster to freecoaster . the best thing about the RL HUB  was the weight - lighter without all the coaster guts . hope this helps mate .

Yes thats it, its an RL hub. Its definetly not an ACS freecoaster conversion, its an RL hub. As i said theres no inner coaster guts, its a freewheel setup.
