No fear... its no wind up... Burnerworld should know.. we lent them a couple of Aero Pro frames to work off..

25th Anniversary Burner....

The pic is only a 'drawing'... it does look a little new school in places... but they are building a 99.9% replica of the original Team Aero Pro..  :coolsmiley:

The Taiwanese can copy anything....lets just hope they don't stick an a-head stem and v-brakes on it like the Mk3 Chopper.  :uglystupid2:

This is quite exciting really, no i am not being funny either. With the recent retro products (rubbish)  that is being brought, out this is just the thing needed, i recon it will sell well too, not so sure about the tuffs though.

So exactly what other stem would you put on it then?  It's 2006 ffs!  lets face it.....1 1/8th ahead is far better and more reliable than an old quill type.

I think it looks the dogs!  any idea on a price?  ball park??

Price is proposed at £249.99...  :coolsmiley:

They will be limited to 500 only.. but there will also be a Burnerworld LIMITED EDITION run of 200 (spec/design not confirmed yet).

Myself & DaveMac have been working with Raleigh on this bike and we are hoping to see the prototype in the flesh before the design team break for Christmas.

Steady on pickle....that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it!!

The Mk 3 Chopper looks shite with an A-head and V brakes.....I think a 'retro' bike should be just that 'retro'. Sticking an a-head on it will make it look like any other new school bike just with a different paint scheme and we can all do that.

And I've never had a problem with quill stems myself either.

If you want a new school bike, buy a new school bike - simple.

Hey guys...must say that the positive comments are great...especially from some of you "normal" people.  ;D

Just to clear up some of the questions raised:

NO - A Head

NO - V brakes

YES - Chromoly all round. One of my Tange Aero Pro frames is currently in the Far East at the frame makers. They will have to strengthen the rear dropouts to comply with modern day health & safety however.

YES - White Tuffs

YES - £250 is the guide price...fairly certain that it should stick to that as well. With only 500 pieces available, I think thats a good price too.

Cheers,
Dave  :daumenhoch:

Surely you have to ask yourself if it's not going to have Aheadset and V-brakes, what is it going to have? Cheap and nasty quill stem with cheap and nasty calipers?

I don't know about you, but I haven't seen much in the way of quality quill stems or calipers for years? (It's highly likely that I've not been looking in the right places though)  ::)

there's plenty of original ones about

hopefully the retro bandwagon will depart soon and fook off back to the far east and stop unleashing reproduction wannabe bikes

if raleigh (or whoever is making this) want to do something productive they should rerelease all the old stickers and padsets. they'd probably make more money that way too, instead of these 1 minute wonder fashion bikes that devalue quicker than a pack of rubber johnnys in the vatican

Use the word Burner and it all kicks off...  ;D

Regarding the headset... the fact that on the last visit to Raleigh I left them a Tange 300 headset may be an indication in the right direction.. but we will see.  ;)

The Team Aero Pro was originally marketed and sold with White Tuffs...  :P

Glad some of you can see the positives in this project and I am sure they will sell...

To everyone else.. if you don't want one... don't buy one..  ::)

I can also tell you that Raleigh are working on a New School Race Bike that I think you will be rather impressed with... Alloy Frame / Chromoly Forks...

Don't forget the Olympics are round the corner...  ;)

Correct me if i'm wrong though.....wasn't the original Aero Pro the top end race bike of it's day (for Raliegh) so if they stuck a new school headset and just fitted a rear brake......Bobs your unkle!!   :daumenhoch:

I like it though......but would be swayed towards the Gen1 re-issue next year  :smitten:

It wouldnt cut the mustard on the track though unless it had been re-designed-tweaked, there is a massive deifference between the old race bikes and the current stuff. My Haro Pro-XL is a 91 and still feels sooo different to my 2005 'ONE 52'

Build a nice new frame, keep it Retro looking, at least then it would be a lot more desirable to want and to want to ride.........Might even get one meself then, Only coz i know it would be made in Taiwan!!!

I asked about aniversary aero pro at the local raleigh dealers a few weeks ago. He confirmed that raleigh are bringing them out, should be around easter next year.

Everything that has been mentioned here was confirmed by the shop owner except he said the frame would be alloy and there would be 1000 made. we'll wait and see i guess.

I've put my name down for one. It probably wont get ridden tho, just sit next to my aero pro race.

Everything that has been mentioned here was confirmed by the shop owner except he said the frame would be alloy and there would be 1000 made. we'll wait and see i guess.

I've put my name down for one. It probably wont get ridden tho, just sit next to my aero pro race.

Easter next year... Sorry... they won't be out till June.

The frame is Full Chromoly NOT alloy and there is only a plan to build 500 at this moment. (so perhaps your raleigh dealer was trying to be clever).

As for putting your name down for one... First Come.. First Served.. No Reservations for these bikes are being taken yet... And members of www.burnerworld.co.uk (http://www.burnerworld.co.uk) will have the first option to reserve one.

If you want accurate info on these bikes, bypass ya dealer... he aint working with Raleigh on this project..  ;)

i like it..... think its a great idea and it looks a hell of a lot  better than the mongoose effort, and i'd rather spend £250 on that than one of the bottom end new school bikes that are available from other manufacturers and are all painted in drab dark colour schemes

repro pad's and accessories would be good though and i'd like to see one in the flesh before buying.

nice one raliegh and burner boys :daumenhoch:

I think it is a great idea, but really think that it should be made similar to how the retro SE Quad will be i.e. threadless 1 1/8" forks, aheadset, V-Brakes and new school geometry, but with the old school paint scheme, pads and stickers.

I know your comments are placed in humour but give Raleigh a break... maybe after 25 years they have finally realised that the original Burners were crap and have decided to set the record straight...

I think you will be suprised by the quality of the build and even more suprised by the New Skool Frame they are building...  ;)

 :daumenhoch:

They are working really hard to get this spot on... Myself and DaveMac have had several meetings with Raleigh and the Head of Design (Simon) on this project and he is a really cool guy and very passionate about this project. He is also very receptive to the ideas and changes that we have suggested along the way.

No doubt there will be a few who won't like it, simply because it wears the Raleigh Badge and the has the stigma of being a Burner... But honestly the build quality is first class and they have (in my opinion) captured the real old school feel on bike built in 2007. The geometry is idendical to to the original and the tubing is full cromo, the only distinct difference is probably the drop outs that have had to strengthened to meet current Bicycle Build Regulations.

I hope it is well received by you guys on Rad that aint fan's of the Burner, maybe its taken 25 years for them to get it right...  ;)

We have only been alllowed to release the photo's that can be found on www.burnerworld.co.uk at the moment (a few more will be released this afternoon/evening).
I have dozens of pics that I took Saturday but am under instruction keep them private until later..

The bike is having its 'official' photshoot as we speak and Raleigh have agreed to let us have the 'official' pictures before anyone else...  8)

Regarding the brakes... they are not Black Dia Compe MX1000's or 900's... Full spec will be released when permission is granted from our friends at Raleigh..

Uh-oh!! Cable guides and calipers is a no go, just dont work EVER!!!!

I mean't this ^^^.

We realise that some components may not be as efficient or as required by some people, but remember that the idea from Raleigh's point of view was to keep it as close to the original as possible, which unfortunately means no lugs.

No worries mate, only kidding.

The bikes will be distributed through their dealer network, but Beard and I have secured some for members of our website www.burnerworld.co.uk

This is our own site that we use to help us fund our annual Burner Bash event by selling t-shirts etc. NB. This is seperate to being a member of the Burner forum, which we do not own.

All payments will need to go direct to Raleigh in payment for the bikes. In the next 2 weeks I'm hoping to get a form around all of our members that will enable them to secure a bike before its release.

Details on how to become a member can be found here: http://www.burnerworld.co.uk/merchandise.htm

Cheers

All you gotta do is run a straight cable bypassing the guides and you get an instant improvement on the braking. There is nothing wrong with the calipers thay will work fine but just not going through the guides. I found this out on my OS race bike that i race and had no braking but thanks to WOLFY for the tip i have wicked braking using calipers.  :4_17_5:

Cheers Dave, thats right.

All we ask is for a nominal £3 fee which we put towards the cost of our public liability insurance for our annual "Burner Bash" event that Beard and I organise.

This is totally independant of the Burner forum which isn't owned by us. In return for helping Raleigh on this project, they said that they would allow our members to pre-order one of the new bikes to ensure everyone that wanted one, got one.

Pre-order forms will be distributed in the next week or 2. :daumenhoch:

Post by: davemac1974 on January 16, 2007, 10:43 PM
Are those Tange grips?

Not original Tange, no.

The pic below shows a 3D representation of how they will look. We saw them on Saturday and they are superb!  The Tange logo on the ends have been replaced by an updated version of Raleigh's "R" logo, and as you can see the inset Tange text has been replaced with "Raleigh" also.

The feel of the grips is unbelievable. They are super soft...much, much softer than the Tange ones.

They have done such a good job copying the grips, could this not be done an the other parts as well. Even if it did cost a little bit more, would just finnish the job off. The stem looks great as well :) :) ;) :daumenhoch:

We've raised questions on the seat, brakes, seatclamp and pedals.

The guy running the project is a top bloke, and I believe him when he says he'll do his best. The bottom line is that if they have to make new toolings for many of the parts to get them as near identical as possible, the bike will end up nearer £500. You'll still get people who aren't happy then.

At £250 its top value, and will be great to see people swap parts to their own preference. I guess we may get a few Ruff'a'likes.

So let me get this right.

There will be a run of 500 of those in the pic and then 250 of the ltd edition burner world version spec to be confirmed?
Title: Re: New Raleigh Team Aero Pro
Post by: beard1973 on January 18, 2007, 10:09 AM
So let me get this right.

There will be a run of 500 of those in the pic and then 250 of the ltd edition burner world version spec to be confirmed?

Initially 250 of these will be available. On General Sale in June... If you are a member of Burnerworld [not the Burner Forum] then you will receive a priority order form which will reserve you a bike [£249.99 incl. FREE delivery to any UK mainland address].

The release of a further 250 will all depend upon the Sales of the first 250. [personally I think they will be gone inside a week].

The Burnerworld  Edition is something that is still under discussion with Raleigh. As a thank-you for our input and help on this 07 Team Aero Pro, Raleigh have offered us the opportunity to create a limited edition Burnerworld Aero Pro.

Design... Date of Release and Quantity of this bike is not something we have any details on at the moment, but suffice to say it will be toward the back end of the year and it will be a BEAUTY!!

So if you would like an order form for the 07 Team Aero Pro... sign up to Burnerworld NOW.... www.burnerworld.co.uk

@Moose.

The Black Brake Blocks on White Skyways is VERY ironic.. It was one of the first things that we noticed when viewing the prototype, we also pointed out the fact that Raleigh made the very same error back inthe 80's when they first shot pictures of the Original Team Aero Pro...

As they planned to recreate the original Publicity shot, we thought it would be quirky if they did the same in 2007... So they left them....  :coolsmiley:

I must also admit that when taking the 07 bike for Test ride around Raleigh's Car Park, I was told not to use the brakes!! Once astride the bike I was so excited... I forgot... I got to one end of the Car Park and decided to do a full "Riders ready... pedals ready..." as I approached the main reception doors I suddenly remembered about stopping...  :-[

There was a chorus of "DON'T BRAKE!!" but too late... the prototype then sported some nasty black rings around each wheel...  :-[  did I feel a tit!?  :D

Below is the message I've just posted on the Burner forum. Please ignore my obvious frustration that comes through towards the end, it was in response to some stupid questions :uglystupid2:...what do you expect from people that restore Burner's though eh???  ;D

"OK guys, everyone who's a member of Burnerworld should now have an email containing 2 attachments, an advertising flyer and an order form. Believe it or not, you do have to pay for these bikes, so you will have to enter payment details.

If anyone who believes they are a member hasn't received their email yet, please contact me at davemac@burnerworld.co.uk

The pdf cannot be amended in Adobe Reader. If you read the form there are a number of ways you can place your order....some suggestions for all those that cannot be bothered to read it:

1. Print the form out, complete, and post.
2. Print the form out, complete, and fax.
3. Print the form out, complete, scan, and email.
4. Telephone the number on the form, and speak to the lovely Janet.
5. Recreate the form using wax crayons on the back of a shaven hamster, place it in a small cardboard tube from the inside of a toilet roll, and send it to Raleigh via carrier pigeon....FAO Janet obviously or it will never get there.

Thank You

Dave"

PS. Got a mag the other day through the post off the bay, had a full page story on "Shooter!".  :daumenhoch:

Was it Simon Wild you dealt with through Raleigh?
If it was, have a word with him. He's a decent lad. Sure he'd help you if you helped him. :daumenhoch:

Simon is a legend in my eyes... His desire to get this bike built and released has been superb, powers that be have tried to pull the plug on several occassions but the project was something he believed in [along with myself and DaveMac] and I think the powers that be are in for a suprise when they see how these bikes sell...  8)

Sir Simon Wild....  ;)

I worked at Raleigh with Simon.
I was the one originally asked whether to go for a Burner revival.
I did some research and decided that if it was gonna be done that we would have to do the bike as close to the original as possible.
The bosses there are very hard to push in a direction that they think unprofitable to them and thats put in the nicest way!
I decided not to go ahead with it. Looks like Simon decided to.
It would have taken a massive argument for it to get to that point!
I hope it works out for him.

I got this email from him just the other day -

"Got to keep it real mate like we discussed"

A couple more pics from www.burnerworld.co.uk 's visit to Raleigh

REMEMBER: This is just the prototype.   ;)

Quite a few of the components are either being changed or the changes are being discussed (financially viable???)

i see what was meant by the cable guides now

The probelm lies in the small rear piece of outer cable at the caliper, there is no movement and so the one arm of the caliper sticks in place and just rubs the rim, quick and easy fix is nice rear cable straight to the caliper.

The first thing that's going to happen is it's getting stripped and retro'd well proper with dia-compe brakes, tange headset, suntour stem, redline flights and suntour XC-11 pedals. Oh and a proper kashimax aero as well.

What is the point of buying one then stripping it down and building it up with different parts? :idiot2: just buy it,wrap it up and stick it in the loft for 20 years, then bring it down and you will either sell it for big bucks? or the ass would have fallen out of the whole bmx market and it'll be worth fcuk all! ::)

Cos it's being bought for racing that's why :LolLolLolLol:

I haven't got the room to keep a collection of bikes just sitting there so I'll race it at Hersden this summer. However it's being built to a strict price limit so I'll junk all the parts and keep the frame and forks :daumenhoch:

There is only one in the UK, the prototype at Raleigh HQ in Eastwood.

Last time I spoke to Raleigh I seem to remember May 14th as the date the first 250 hit our shores.

Thats one way of looking at it I suppose!  :LolLolLolLol:

Ideally Raleigh could have taken a deposit, but they aren't setup for that, and full payment was the only way that they could guarantee reserving you one.

I have to say that I am amazed at the general good reception Raleigh's planned release of this bike has had on Rad. I expected the odd remark, which is all good fun as always, but the general positive vibes from a lot of you is really cool and has made the fact that Beard and I have been involved with the project feel even more special. As far as we are told (and Simon is a sound guy) that is it for the Team Pro colourway.

As a thank you to Beard and I for helping them they are going to let us design a bike ourselves to hopefully be released for Xmas 07. This will be based on the same frame as the Team Pro. We haven't decided on the design yet, but Beard and I have our thinking caps on  ;) We were thinking a run of about 100 for this, to keep it as limited as possible.

It has also been made public in the last couple of days that Boxfresh commsisioned Raleigh to build a bike using that frame for a fashion show in Barcelona to launch their new range, that they could design themselves. We did know about this, but were sworn to secrecy.

Apparently the bike has gone down a storm, and they want some more to display in stores. No word on volumes yet, although 100 has been mentioned, but they will not be available for general sale to the public.

Chrome with black polka dots was the Boxfrsh design:

there's plenty of original ones about

hopefully the retro bandwagon will depart soon and fook off back to the far east and stop unleashing reproduction wannabe bikes

if raleigh (or whoever is making this) want to do something productive they should rerelease all the old stickers and padsets. they'd probably make more money that way too, instead of these 1 minute wonder fashion bikes that devalue quicker than a pack of rubber johnnys in the vatican

Mr Ruler is 100% Correct.

And why why why with the tuffs, if they want to do it with style, it has to be Alloys or Alloy Hubbed Tuffs.

Oh, and they make a big mistake with building the A' Pro, they should have done the Super tuff or the Night Burner as they were the ones that people had.

Thats more the point, do you see mongoose making a repo Pro Class? No, they do the one that people can relate to.

And I very much doubt that there is only 49 left out of 350. Infact I doubt that there was 350 made, Lets face it, 90% will be in skips by now, and if there are 49 owned that makes it a lot more than 350 at that percentage rate. I know I have binned at least 3, I know rombloke has abused one.

I have nothing against burners, I have one that I am restoring, I have a few that I will never bother, but lest face it, whats the point in this?

If people are buying for Nostagia, then they will buy the bike that they had back then, ie, not the A' Pro. They would lust over the Super Tuff as thats what people wanted, the blue MK1 with the Yellow Tuffs.

And, If the A Pro was such a rare beast, surely they are pissing on thier own bonfire by putting another 250 into the world.

Again, I will explain.

If you owned a set of rare Hutch Gayspeed cranks and someone reproduced them and people bought them as they could not afford the real ones, would you not be pissed off as your real gayspeed are now worth a lot less than they were.

Stupid Idea.

Bring back a proper burner that was BUILT BY RALEIGH, FOR REAL KIDS.

Ask 10 different people what bike should have been repro'd, and you'll get 10 different answers. Raleigh had to choose one, and they decided to go with the colour scheme that they think would appeal to most people. Rather than building a bike that everyone owned, they chose a bike that many people wanted to own.

There was millions of the Raleigh built Burners made, and there are many that remain (apart from the 4 disposed of by you and Dave obviously). There would have been no point remaking those, as there is still a plentyful supply around...just look in your nearest skip!  ;D

I agree about the Boxfesh one, but what do you expect from a design house, eh?  ::)

The frame is lovely though...the best thing Raleigh have commissioned in years.  ;)

Well, I still think Raleigh repro'd the right bike. If it was a Super Tuff Burner, all 350 would still be on the shelves come christmas...with tumbleweed bouncing down the aisle. They have built the one that people could never afford, but always wanted, and the one which actually looked pretty damn cool.

Too expensive to tool up apparently, when they have plastic hubbed versions available nice and cheap...the bike is only £250...and everyone would have moaned if it were more.
