can anyone tell me
which were the earliest Motomag frames, the one with a bracket welded near the rear dropout for the coaster arm to bolt to, or the one without the bracket and a clamp used instead ?
Cheers :daumenhoch:
-
anyone know, there must be a motomag expert on here :daumenhoch:
-
i would imagine the coaster came first
-
On my 1980 pics, BITD the coaster arm was clamped to the frame. :daumenhoch:
-
1980 is well late for a motomag
-
early ones had the coaster bracket :daumenhoch:
-
It may have been earlier than 1980, Halfords had just started selling Team Murrays, BTW the memory fades at 36 :-[ :-[
-
Halfords had team murrays back in 81, motomags are much earlier 76 onwards I would have thought
-
my team murray 346 was new from halfords late 79 im sure
-
earliest motomag ive had was no brake bridge ,coaster arm if i remember rightly .77
-
i think the earliest were the ones with the extra gusset from the downtube to the seattube

thats my thinking too: very early ones no brake bridge at all but coaster tab
then both & think the coaster tab got dropped around 1980

Reilley might be able to help, he's a US member and has a huge (and highly desireable) collection of bikes that are pre 1980, if he doesn't know I am sure he knows someone that does :daumenhoch:

fook me thats a new one on me top notch
-
so 75/6's had the seat/down tube gusset.
Then 76/7 had no brake bridge.
77 on till the 81 MK 2's was the goose we all know and love?
when did they stop doing the coaster bracket? anyone know?
-
i had 78 one new and im pretty sure no coaster tab on that
-
I have a 77 and a 79. The 77 has one and the 79 doesn't. That should narrow it down a little.

Think this picture answers my original question.nice one and thanks for all the info . It would be nice to know when they actually did drop the coaster tab or did they make both for a short while? :daumenhoch:
-
my 79's and 80's don't have a coaster tab or gusset.
-
my 79 does have one
serial number is marked (from memory) CC9
so likely then mid / late 79 they dropped it
prob always find or two that will be the exception though i am sure
its mongoose after all :D

agreed :daumenhoch:
