i started pretending on a modified dragster around 1977 and getting my first real cro-mo frame in early 1979. it was an aussie quicksilver ( i got some pics in the other topic) then in february 1982 i got the best (in my eyes) a redline prolineII f/f set which i built up in different guises over a few years and stopped in 1984 when cars and tits became important.
-

I can't remember if it was 1979 or 1980, I do know two weeks after I got it I raced at Chatham on the wooden ramps and then a few weeks later at Chatham again in the pouring rain but on the proper track, remember my mum freaking out at how dirty the bike was :daumenhoch:

My first was this, only not so nice looking.I got it in either 78 or 79,kinda big for me then.
This is reilley1's by the way but it's exactly the same as mine was.
It's one heavy SOB too. ;D
Mine didn't have decals on it so I never knew what it was called, that headtube decal kills me,looks like it says "As seen on TV". :2funny:

I was trying jumps when I was about 6 (1974) still got the scar on my chin where I went over the bars and had to have stitches. I had a poxy little gold bike with white wheels it was called a Golden Arrow. Still remember it. I was trying to copy Evel Knievel.
Then got a Tomahawk Formula One, gold with grey mag wheels and 3 gears. Used to do jumps on that too and it used to wheelie really easily (sit right back on the rear higher part of the seat and away you went.
Got a grifter about 1978ish and started stand up wheelies and jumps.
Then got my Mk1 Burner in 1981...
-
I got my 1st real BMX in 1980 when I lived in the USA.
-
Always rode dirt and made up tracks in the old Brickyard from as long ago as I can remember.
I'm guessing early to mid 70's on modified road bikes with cowhorns and nobbly tyres.
We called it "scrambling" then! How we rode them I don't know. They must have been massive!
Grifter was the start of the 20" wheels for me mid 70's and a Team Murray BMX came to me Xmas '79 (I think. Pretty sure I had it before we moved house in '80)
-
79 I think with a Murray 340

1979 on a Mongoose wire wheel, I saved up from my Saturday job at a butchers and my Mum chipped in too so that I could go over to my local bike shop, Holdsworths`in Welling, and pick up the bike that I`d been drooling over for months that was in the window :smitten:
