what was the very first thing you changed on your very first bmx?
me, i took off the hard plastic pad set that said "bmx 2000" and fitted a brand new aero pad set.
oh yeh
swiftly followed by a grip change for mushrooms
-
not sure i can remember that far back.... i think they must have been new grips on my piranha. i think they were called spirals or something like that. basically mushroom copies, but for some reason every pair i had were really soft and everyone thought they were real mushrooms apart from the fact they never had the logo on the ends. but what did the kids in my area know...
-
if i'm honest, the grips i first bought were spirals too. they were like mushrooms but harder. and only 1.99
i got some back in 1996 and was surprised at how lame they were - as bitd i run them a lot!!!
-
My supergoose3 came with red z-rims,which looked out of place so i swaped them for white tuff2's.much better :daumenhoch:
-
Pedals and grips. The bike i had had rat traps and they lasted about 2 days the grips were those oakley ones with the flaired ends, 3's? and i hated them.
-
back in probably 1977 i had a "malvern star" dragster that i put motor bike handle bars on. because there was no bump in the middle big enough for the single clamp stem i built it up with sheet metal (probably an old beer can). as for grips i could only get motor bike grips so the r/hand one was built up with tape. life was incredibly simple then, but i didn't know it :coolsmiley:
-
A BMX Magnum with drum brakes ;D My first modification was to snap the front forks trying to jump a ditch :D
I swapped my Grandstand Astro Wars for that >:(
-
the first i remember is changing cmc's for simplex mags, and awhite aeroyal seat. class!
-
Mushrooms on my ultra burner. I remember the excitement getting them on the school bus off a kid who had been to Rad City that weekend.
-
my first bike was a sort of mongoose motomag after snapping a spoke at rom i was given some wheels
then i walked 6 miles to a bmx shop a bought some hubs. i drew the spoke layout and re laced my first pair
of wheels in 1980 and cant remember if they rode ok but they was on a long time.
-
My first REAL BMX was an 83 Torker 280.. first thing i bought for it was a gold Pro Neck stem :)
-
Team Murray in 82,cant remember what bits I changed it was a real mongrel of a bike... :daumenhoch:
-
My Scorpion was changed before it left Alpine Sports when I bought it in 1979 or 1980 (can't remember for sure!), I got a Mongoose Gold Stem and Grab On Grips put on it straight away. Next up was the brake lever I think although not 100% sure, changed the shimano one for a Haro two finger one :daumenhoch:
-
the first thing i changed was the pedals after i ripped my leg open on them. still got the scar now :daumenhoch:
-
My first BMX was a Raleigh Super Burner Mk1.
The first modification I made was to get rid of the fecker and get something decent! ;D :daumenhoch:
-
I didn't change anything on my bike as Steve Wilson made it to order for me ::). I had yellow Z rims, blue tyres, yellow Elina seat, blue pads, erm can't remember anymore, that was back in 80/81. My brother changed his red mags for spoked wheels because of the weight (on his Wilson) and it also had suspension forks, so our Dad changed them for him.
-
was a mag burner and i pulled that bl##dy chainguard off :2funny:
-
My 82 Silver Streak came with Oakley 3 grips,I switched them to F 1's (If I remember correctly) before it even left the shop. :daumenhoch:
Actually I got it in 84,it's an 82 though.
It was hiding in the back of the shop, found & built the day I got it,it was cheaper cuz it was already 2 yrs old. :smitten:
-
mi first bmx a new crappy Team Murrey 346 well the chainguard just had to go before i rode it ::)
thinking about it reckon in the early days removal of all reflectors must have been top of everyone's new bmx bike modification list 8)
-
yep and those burner boys love those reflector's and chainguard's :2funny:
-

when i got my fox on xmas day, the reflectors and chainguard shit came off before i even rode it
my first bmx however was too cuffy to even have reflectors
-
i can remember changing the grips and pad set on my piranha
yellow oakley 2's and yellow cal lite
i later tried some grifter wheels as the cast mags were too heavy :idiot2: think i saved a gram maybe tops ::)
oh and a uni seat yellow hammer head
-
yep and those burner boys love those reflector's and chainguard's :2funny:

Gold burner ditched the flectors n guard can you believe grips where the first thing to go :LolLolLolLol:
-
My goose came home with black ash bars and single stem, I got a gold stem of ruffell and a pair of red race inc bars (on a blue built bike), closely followed by a sugino one piece chain ring, then the tuffs went in favour of araya 7cs. then............
wow I could have bought a new bike....
-

-
mk1 super burner, got some black skyways and some cw handle bars :D :D
-
Pulled my fooking ugly sister off it... Looked much better ;)
-
those god damn awful cobra grips on my viceroy, they were hard as bullets and i couldnt get my little mits around them, think i stuck mushies on instead then followed by snide star bars
-
Went to the the local shop and bought an Ice Lolly ate in mega fast and got brain freeze
Used the stick and 1/2 a roll of tape to stick in on my rear drop out to make a "clackin noise" :daumenhoch:
-
Team Murray ( 330 I think) . Reflectors off, red alloy v bars on :daumenhoch:

my older brothers had 330's, awesome.... ;) ;) ;)
-
first mod was fitting brakes, as my scorpion exploder only came with a coaster....
-
my only bmx BITD was an 82 silverfox
first 'mod' was to remove the reflectors - then I could start riding it
not sure of the exact order of bits that went on it after, but here's my best guess
swapped the crap grips for black sharps :smitten:
put a gt layback on it
stripped the downtube, seat tube and headset decals off it
then a suntour headlock and seat clamp
sharp bb boot
zeronine stadium plate
black z-rims
did toy with some 'chrome' zap pads but they didn't stay on for long
-
Mum bought me a puch.. Chain guard and reflectors off and decals. Thinking of it, we all took our decals off and nothing to do with sh@t bikes? Even though my puch was pretty crap..! :'(
-
a dino .. probably , training wheels off !! :LolLolLolLol:

The exact opposite.
First bike was a 79 Redline MX2, got it home and took the caliper brakes off and left the coaster :daumenhoch:
-
Yep chain guard off :LolLolLolLol:
-
Falcon Pro Zeta. the first mod was with Nitromors getting rid of the Black of the Rims. The first part addition was trick Nuts from the DP Factory :daumenhoch: closely followed by a Potts mod :4_17_5:
-
my first bmx was a cheap £79 metalic blue BMX (no other name on it ) with cool chrome front forks. first thing to change was the brakes as i broke them on the way home ;D my mum took it straight back to the shop an gave out at them for selling shoddy bikes they gave her £20 back so i could go and buy new brakes for it :daumenhoch:. went off then and bought mx copies mushroom copies and lots of sweets :daumenhoch:. the chain gard was taken off and the brackets cut off with a junior hacksaw . although the bike was cheap i loved it and wish i had kept it. i gave it to a mate whos dad rebuilt it with a side hack (wish i had pics ) it was well cool .

Yep!!! Just went to the very last one and bobs ya uncle.. ;)
-
Ah 2007.
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
-
First bike was a Blue Burner, christmas 82 , first thing was to race it at Bunneys (Bulwel) just after new year so removing the front brake (save weight ;D) and the paper plate were first mods i guess swiftly followed by a change of gearing as standard with its big metal chainguard was something like a 48:16 lol must of swapped the rear lever over sometime soon after as i ALWAYS have the rear brake on the right now
