I have recently started to have a LOT of pain in my elbow, I cant think of an incedent where I banged it so am a little worried as to what is wrong?
I am struggling to grip my handlebars as the acute pain in my elbow makes it VERY uncomfortable.
Any ideas? Arthritus maybe?
I have a day off on the 30th so if it isnt better I will go to the Doctors then
Thanks
DINGO

sounds like tennis elbow , ive had adreneline injections in both and it worked instantly.
does yor elbow hurt when arm straight and say holding a cuppa, if so tennis elbow
-
I cant even straighten my arm, lifting anything or trying to cut cables at work just results in really sharp pain
:) DINGO :)
-
Could be RSI from work or you might even have a bad back and the nerves are being affected. When I had a prolapsed disk I had anle pains too.
-
I can feel the pain directly in the elbow, it feels a lot like when I fractured my wrist years ago but like I said I cant remember banging it :uglystupid2:
I am just worried cos right at this moment i cant ride any of my bikes,BMX/MTB or road bike as I cant hold on >:(
:) DINGO :)
-
Loooong rest.
I had something similar years ago from working allen keys on bolts at work.
Had to swap hands for a long time!
-
get one of them elasticated support bandages they help a lot
-
Got one of the, got it on at the moment, I have tried most things
Elasticated bandages
Tiger Balm
Lavender oil
Deep Heat
Ice packs
they all work with varying degrees of sucsess but if I stop using them it comes straight back >:(
I think the only solution is a trip to the Quacks but I am VERY phobic of the Doctors in this country
:) DINGO :)
-
leave ya todger alone then lol :P
i suffer from it in both elbows due to my job
i use ibuleve (spell check)
works real good

i find if i rest it for a week or so try use my other arm for a couple of weeks it comes right pain goes and seems to get get stronger , i can now straighten it , i think to heal it total they have to cut the tendons and strech them, dont need that but i can get by

YOUSE JUST AN OLD GIT!!! ;D. but seriously! I have broken both my legs, knackerd my crusiate ligaments and snapped the tibula plateau clean of one side of my knee so they hurt loads. I was told by a moto-x rider to try using glucosamine it alledgedly helps to restore/strengthen the ligaments and and cartlidge around joints, bit sceptical but i now take 1 a day and although they still give me grief the improvement is great i dont limp around like a old git now :) give them a go it might help. Cheers dean

dingo's right thought add them up i bent my spine in 1987 broke my wrist twice broke' my rib cage '4 fingers '8 toes'the base of both my feet'twisted my foot backwards now got 2 plates and 5 pins' I think thats it :2funny: bl##dy bikes :2funny: Thats not including how many stiches ive got :crazy2:

I'll agree with Geth; it's a long rest thats needed, and/or a complete change of activity. I had similar pains in both my elbows through a work related thing. I wasn't riding BMX at the time, it took 18 months to go away.... Now when I have more than a fortnight away from riding I get the pains back in my elbows, but it subsides after an equal amount of time.
As for work, I now refuse to lift/pull beyond my ability. This has caused some problems, but I'll not now jeopardise my health for a job :angrysoapbox:

STARTED TAKING GLUCOSAMINE YESTERDAY AND ALREDY ITS FEELING ABOUT 50% BETTER AND i NEARLY HAVE FULL RANGE OF MOVEMENT BACK :daumenhoch:
Thanks guys oops caps lock

Tennis elbow Mark, i had it for a couple of years, it's the reason Sandro stopped riding bmx's :(
Who said I quit LOL.
I am still suffering even though I haven't done anything for ages. A simple test to see if it's tennis elbow is to straighten your arm , if you can and stretch your fingers out straight. With the other hand apply pressure to the top of your fingers and try and lift them while pressing down. If its tennis elbow it will kill near your funny bone.
I have had 2 cortisone injections in each elbow. 3 of them worked but eventually it comes back. My advice if you do have a jab is to avoid using your arm for a week or so. It will feel better within 24 hrs, but unless you let it heal you may run the risk of a recurring problem.......like me.
As an alternative ice regularly, rest, ibuprofen and voltarol gel.

Thanks for the advice San,
yesterday I couldnt even lift the sugar container out of the cupboard with my bad arm but today I can after double dosing with the glucasomine but the pain is still there,
I wanna buy a tennis elbow brace but cant find one :2gunsfiring_v1:
:) DINGO :)
-
After trying your test San I have come to the conclusion that I`ve got tennis elbow too :(
-
it took about two years for mine to sort itself out :(
-
bought a tennis elbow brace today, basically a 2" wide strap that you velcro round your arm and it takes the pressure off the tendons and it works :smitten:
hopefully the tendons can rebuild themselves now they are not being stretched all the time?
:) DINGO :)
-
Been to the doctors today, and it looks like I`ve just strained the tendon that goes from the wrist to the elbow, which is nice :daumenhoch:
-
good news Bill :daumenhoch:
I am at the quacks on Tuesday so hopefully mine wont be major either (although strained tendon is bad enough :( )
:) DINGO :)
-
Mark it`s fooking killing me, I can hardly lift my cup of tea to my lips, but now I know what it is I feel a bit better about it :daumenhoch:
-
Tennis elbow makes itself known where the tendon joins the bones on the outside of the elbow, near your humerous (funny bone). Bend fingers and cock wrist upwards whilst having your elbow bent and have a good press around the bones at the outside of the elbow. If it's sore there it is tennis elbow. Tennis elbow supports are designed to clamp the tendons before their attachment to the bone, thus deflecting strain away from the damage tissue. Just a bit more info for any/all of you. Golfers elbow is similar but is on the inside of your elbow. I have had both at the same time.
-
San I am pretty sure mine is tennis elbow :2gunsfiring_v1:
Billy get some glucosomine and a brace, mine has worked wonders, two days ago I couldnt lift the sugar pot out of the cupboard, tommorow I hope to ride :daumenhoch:
The strap works in the same way as a patella strap for all you footballers out there
:) DINGO :)
-
And are you actually going to ride next Weds ?
-
Yes mate, even if I have to dope myself up with pain killers, how about you?
:) DINGO :)

Went down the local Holland and Barrets and got 3 large containers of the glucosomine (360 tabs) yesterday after your earlier posts Mark, and have got a tubular support on between my wrist and upper arm which seems to be helping, also using Ibuleve gel 3 times a day.
The bird in Holand and Baretts said that the glucosomine takes up to 3 months to get it to the system, so I`m takeing 2000mg a day to speed it up a bit :daumenhoch:
-
I can't speak for H&B but you need to buy quality vitamins & supplements. You may as well not bother takin cheap ones for what they do.
-
How can you tell if they`re good or not though San ?
-
Mine were £19 for 60!!!!!!!!!!!
I nearly fell through the floor mas I thought I had picked up the £5 ones :LolLolLolLol:
:) DINGO :)
-
mine are
glucosamine with omega 3 and also chondroitin
:) DINGO :)
-
Mine should have been £36 for 120, but they had a special on and they were only £8.95 for 120, so I got 360 to last me the year out :daumenhoch:

Just got back from the doctor who said I can do pyhsio but it is basically what I do at work or leave it to heal naturally :uglystupid2:
When I mentioned the injections she said "oh yeah we can do that I suppose" and then gave me a form where I have to go and buy the vial of drugs and come back for them to inject it,FFS what do I pay National Insurance for???
best thing is they only have one doctor who can inject it and they are away untill next week so I have to suffer another week :2gunsfiring_v1: :2gunsfiring_v1:
:) DINGO :)
p.s AND she said do I really want an injection because of the risk of getting an infection
-
your doc is out of order , ive had two shots in each elbow and one in shoulder for free , the needle goes
about an inch in and with no anesthetic its not to bad, i have heard some places charge about £6 PER SHOT
-
Mine was really hurting after the Sunday sesh at Rom, but resting it the last couple of days seems to have helped :daumenhoch:
-
i had a quaterzone (spellcheck) for tennis elbow nearly 2 yrs ago and it aint come back yet (touch me woody and whistle)
tennis elbow is rsi and is common in painters,, apparently i can only have 1 more set of injections :-\ then ? ? ? ? change jobs
-
me doc told me i can only have three in my life time ,so one more and its game over
-
I am a Sparky and told the Doc this is what caused it then she asked me if I play raquet sports :tickedoff:
My shot is gonna cost me the price of a prescription :tickedoff:
:) DINGO :)

I've had two qtrzone shots and i didn't have to pay for either of them. It was the same though in that i had to wait for a particular doctor to sort it out.
Mark get the shot sone as soon as, then wait a while before you go anywhere near your bike. it will be hard because the shots work quite quickly and you will think it's ok. TBH mine both went again after the shots but then i was back on my bike in about two weeks. It took acupunture to sort out my really bad left arm and acupunture is not something i ever want to have to try again. phisio helped a lot too and i still do it now before i go out on me bike. Which hasn't been that much lately :(
-
Mark, take my advice and go really easy on your arm once you have had the jab. I have said it once already but will say it again, you must lay off tearing into your arm cos it will feel better and quickly, but you can cause further damage. For the best results I would put it in a sling as much as possible to avoid the temptation to use it. Hard I know in your job, but for long term gain it will be worth it. I went in to quickly after all of mine and now I am fooked.
-
me doc told me i can only have three in my life time ,so one more and its game over
Fook me im a gonna then, i had tennis elbow for 2 years went to docs and he'd inject my elbow and if it didn't work then it was off to hospital for a larger injection
did this for 2 years then the consultant said ok we'll operate on it, when he was cutting my elbow open he said we should have done this a year ago :idiot2:
I think i had about 12 injections in 2 years, but mine was a very rare case
Also my doctor is a mountain biker so he understands that i need to be back on my bike a quick as pos
-
Thanks for the advice guys, bike riding isnt what tears it up, its work that does that and I have been using a band/brace thing, using my left hand as much as possible and now use a battery screwdriver all of which helps massively, I dont use pain killers as they mask the pain and and only use lavender oil on the joint not any other gels ect..., I have suffered bad joints before and all of these things help me personally.
I am totally amazed that so many of us are affected by this particular injury and its never really came to light before,
maybe we need a common injuries thru BMX thread?
:) DINGO :)
-
It's come to light loads of times before Mark, you just didn't take any notice :)
