OK here it is I have just purchased some OS used Diamondback Comp iii tyres orig 20 x 1.5 must 83/84 they are in great nick but need to be cleaned up !! the side walls need to be transformed to there prior glory !!!
So the question is any tips on how to get some of the brake dust etc of them ?
NOW B4 you all start with the silly reponses fairy liquid, Jiff a brush scrub em harder or whatever I am after a good tip there must be a good way in which to clean em up to there near as dame it glory ?
this I am sure will help a no of other rebuilds !!!the tyres are in good shape other than that

U try it first with a OS set of yours and let me know as I said no silly comments please just if anyone has any tips on how to reclaim them to former glory !!!!

Russ, try Wynns Tyre Restorer, it's foam based and leaves a silicone layer to protect the tyre and sidewall. You can get it for a couple of quid plus post on Amazon.co.uk :daumenhoch:

i got the same thing with my comp 2's.
scared to clean the side walls incase it does something to em lol.

I read that linseed oil is good for reviving the dry sidewalls, can't remember where I read it though :-\

I use neutral unscented skin moisturiser to soften and revive old skinwalls... i gently rub in one coating inside and out each day and after 3 days they are sweet.
The missus is not too impressed though :angel:

I know it sounds bizzare but also good I cut my hands to shreeds trying to put em on the rims
Thanks MR FUNMONSTER I will try as well they do seem to have toughened up a little as foe the hands they will heal with time !!

i'd try the dishwasher thing
try it with a newer / less valuable tyre first
could be a winner
