ok im sure this has been up many times .. but its my turn to overcome this prob .. so im looking for some methods really ...
the seat post is level with the top of the seat mast , so nothin is sticking out from the frame ..and ive gauged how deep in the post is .. its in 4" approx
-
Soak it in diesel to loosen it, seal the seat tube at the bb and fill it up with diesel to the top and leave for a few days. Then get physical with it and try to tap it loose, if that fails progressively drill it out. If you get stuck (no pun intended!), my friend has a machine shop with all sorts of stuff that might be able to do the job near Uxbridge in Middlesex :daumenhoch:
-
deisel !!! now theres a good word !! .. i done what u just said but filled it up with WD40 .. coste me £30 in the fcukin stuff :LolLolLolLol:
-
another way lee that ive used still need sloads of spraying in wd or diesel
i use a metal rod with a small socket welded on one end put that inside the post
pull it up so it rests against the bottom of the stuck post on one side, on the top of the rod i have welded a flat plate
i then smash merry hell upwards on the plate moving the rested socket to they other side of stuck post.and keep moving till it pops up.
-
good one that.
-
listen to dan !! see hes not just a pretty face !! ok who can weld ... :LolLolLolLol:

If you need an alloy welder, LMK , talk to Steve P for a reference :LolLolLolLol:

dunno what its called but my mate has this thing that can grab inner or outer and is basically a metal pole with this heavy lump that you slide up and it works like a hammer (great for pulling dents just spot weld a pin orwhatever to both n whack away :daumenhoch: ) possibly a slide hammer?
-
A slide hammer is indeed what it is ;)
If all else fails with the seatpost, either use a padsaw that holds hacksaw blades and cut it longways then lever it off the seattube wall. It will spin after that and you can get it out; or, take it to an engineer and have it drilled. :)

what material is the frame?
what material is the seatpost?

Melt the ally post. Lee, are you going to try that? :LolLolLolLol:
-
not, i presume, if its a ripper.

dave thats classified info .. lets just say caustic soda would melt the frame
-
probably a normura or something else rare as fook.
-
no...i know what it is....lee deffo do not use caustic....
i know this sounds a bit daft but soak it in diesel or wd then tap it down to break its grip...then slide hammer it out....
you daft twat

Once its well soaked to get it lubed up, you could try getting a big thread tapper and start it tapping down the inside of the broken seatpost. A tap that was small enough to get the first tapered thread inside the post but big enough that the full threads bit into it. That way you would soon end up with a big "T" bar that was screwed into the post and you might be able to get it twisting. You would have to hold the frame well, and you might just end up twisting it so best go easy!!!

Just a thought, is Lee safe with tools? :LolLolLolLol:
-
no not really, he rang me the other night to ask what size spanner was used on pedals.
Dave
-
what did you say dave? how tall are you?
lol
-
lee i had one to remove for darren from a rickman frame, the only way i could get it out was to drill it, took ages but got it out in the end ;)
-
to be a bit more constructive lee, if you don't need the post, the thing to do is as follows.
get a welder(or somebody off here, me included if you pay the postage) to weld on the inside of the post a pice of metal that you can thwack in an upward direction. then heat the aluminium with a hairdryer till it's really hot, it will expand much more than steel. then when hot, commence thwacking. works for me. Normally if there is visible seatpost sticking out of the top, you thwack it down so that it loosens(just a little bit) , and then clamp in vice(and i mean 'till it's flat between the jaws) and turn the frame twisting the post out gradually.
