Title: home made stem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: rakas17 on January 26, 2007, 10:21 PM
just knocked this up in my lunch hours this week.

Its for my square tubed hawk cruiser so i designed it quite blocky.

It uses a normal old school style wedge stem tube that i got off another old stem by machining off the ally. It bolts on like an Aheadset but  obviosly fits 1" threaded forks.

The logo is a JR which are my initials and looks cool but dunno whether to paint it black in there or leave it plain. the logo works upside down and i think i'm gonna use it on some other parts that i'm gonna make, like brake lever, chain wheel and any other parts i  might try...

hope you like it ;)      joe.

sorry joe, that looks the bollox mate, get some custom ones knocked up for the lads, if you can get enough access to the machine, i know it's not allways that simple. I am wanting to laser some stainless decals for one frame set, the trick is rolling the tiny bastards so they match the frame tubes.  LMK if you are gonna offer custom stems joe, i have seen your handywork and it allways looks top notch.

thanks chaps, compliments always appreciated...

i cant really do them for everyone cos its too much grief.
the ally is swiped from work, at the moment we're making clocks and dash stuff for jaguar and aston martin and only have so much metal to use. not all aluminium is the same and a lot of it wouldn't polish up as nicely...

however, if materials were supplied including donor stem then i could possibly make custom stems, but it will cost cos its a fair bit of work and i have to make them by hand on a hand operated milling machine not a cnc (obviously the logo is cnc'd) also the polishing is my pet hate..

as for doin repro hutch stems, does anyone have any idea what they might sell for? and after the grief over the dx end caps i dunno if it would be worth trying to sell  them to the boys at vbmx.

  cheers,   joe
