As far as I can remember, the 10mm ones werent sold by ACS, they were re-done by someone in the UK. I think it was rob ridge. He just took a boa, made it better (10mm axle and sealed bearings I think) and re sold them. I guess he could have done anything to the colour while they were in bits.
Im not really sure cos I was using a canti on the front when it was all going on
-
now we are getting somewhere ,cheers alex.
-
I bet Chris Job can tell you more (he's on here). I will ask a few people off the site too.
-
Yip. Rob Ridge. The Reaction Megabrake. He took stock Boas and made the mods himself, bloody good brake - 10mm axle. However, I'm almost certain that ACS released a fat axled Boa of their own toward the end of the Boas reign. I'm not entirely sure they ran sealed bearings like Robs ones, I only ever had one of his Megabrakes. :)
-
:daumenhoch: good more info..
-
I have quie a few Boa's and I will say that they are the best sidepull ever.
-
my thin axle boa in black has sealed bearings
-
Must be a late one then. They always ran on bearings I believe, but open. When the axle snapped (as they quite regularly did) they showered the ramp in caliper arms and loose balls ;D
-
When I built my StreetBeat, all I could find were the 10mm axle Boas. Someone on here pointed me in the direction of the standard size at a very good price, saving the forks from a nasty drilling-out.
Pair before the recent ones -mid/late 90s I think- I dismantled and added extra grease to the loose-ball bearings. Seems that ACS were a tad mean with the lube. Never encountered any sealed ones myself. Never snapped an axle, either.
They ARE the best sidepull ever made. Only ever bought black, must be 4 sets by now, but someone did flow me a 'rawed' set once.
-
Definately the best side pull. I only went to a plate and a 990 because I liked the gadgetry of it all ;)
-
me to 1999 /2k got my bright yellow fluffy toy and 990s of mason smith at radlands
and never looked back :)
-
Fluffy Toy :)
