Title: Redline flight dimple/non-dimple spindle
Post by: Haro82 on February 08, 2007, 09:56 AM

Does anyone out there know the difference between a dimple spindle and non-dimple spindle on 401's. Why are the dimple one's supposed to be better etc...   ???

Cheers for any info.

the dimpled ones are thicker and dont have the threaded bits just welded on each end

If they dont have threaded bits does that mean you can't put a threaded bottom bracket on it.

yup, if no threads then it should be the sealed version

The dimpled spindle is the correct one for the full wraps

the non dimple is newer , although the wrap fits this as well , the dimple is era correct

I have had a few pairs of "real" flights over the years. We used to grind out the dimple (its filled with weld) on the 401 spindle and remove the threaded section all together, meaning you could use a sealed BB and not have to buy a new redline spindle.

Not a story a collector wants to hear really.
