Title: 1 1/8 headset prob
Post by: rarman1 on February 08, 2007, 11:05 PM
hi, i am having trouble removing my forks from my frame, it's 1 1/8 threadless setup and after taking of my stem i expected them to just fall out but they seem stuck, even after i hit them with a rubber mallet, i never fitted them together myself and was wondering if anyone has had this with theirs? i cant find what make the headset is it does have a rubber gasket with
aheadset written on it, dont know if its a sealed bearing type are they harder to fit/dismantle

cheers
rob

If you look at the headset from the top of the forks you should see a washer with a split in it, this is holding everything together.  Get a small screwdriver into the split and gently lever the washer up, this will release the forks and bearings.

Yep, rubber mallet everytime, soon loosens off.

Think I'll go with Marty on this one - get that split tapered washer out and it will all literally fall apart on you   :)

yep poke a very small flat headed screw driver in the split bit on the washer and pry off  :daumenhoch:
