Title: mogli stromboli
Post by: steve1275 on February 10, 2007, 09:38 PM
well i finally managed to put together a performer that resembles the one i sold back in 87, living on the isle of wight meant not much of a scene was left by 86 and most the guys were skating. I hung in there as long as i could but dragging my performer around with me,when everyone was getting lifts off parents to go skate, meant I eventually was skating more than riding, and being 14 and having no money led to me selling my performer to a mate at skool for £50, so i could buy a new deck, santa cruz rob roskopp, which we went to southsea that weekend. Then when skating back from the park to get the ferry i stubbed out on a stone and shot the board out into the path of a bus, which snapped the board in two :'(
so hence i wish i hadnt sold the bike in the fist place, never mind..
anyway check out its reincarnation that didnt cost £50 :tickedoff:

not correct forks but i had redline forks on the original, and i had woody bars but this one has proper proclaimers in disguise

i had a dabble at skateboarding in the 80's (like everyone did)

by 1989 as there was no one else riding, i used to session with a pack of "street skaters". it was fun. i'd do complicated ground tricks on my haro, while the skaters all tried to do that kickflip thing.

the thing i found about skateboarding was that it was incredibly hard to do anything that looked even remotely good.

if i am at a skatepark and someone has a skateboard they will let me have a go on, i will always jump on it though. andy irwin brought his to bones one time last year and i was busting some high up kickturns!

i never really skated as such.... when i was riding in the late 80's, everyone else was skating, so used to hang around with skaters.  i learnt a few tricks... it was funny because i learnt tricks like kickflips and shove its quicker than most of the skaters. there were also only 2 or 3 skaters that could ollie higher than me.... oh what it was like to be a sporting genius...  ::)

yeah i still skate,  i was lucky enough to be sponsored by brand x skate boards back in 88, we used session southsea all the time they had a few street comps bitd and us lads from the island seemed to do well and we got picked up by brand x. Then i got on deathbox skateboards which was jeremy foxs company before it became flip skateboards.   when i moved to bognor i met carlo griggs and helped him build his first big vert ramp in 89, and used to skate that and get blown away by his riding having never witnessed bmx vert riding before, only quarterpipes and bowls.   I always had a go at riding the vert but felt very intimidated compared to standard of riding carlo and his friends could do.  so i just skated the ramp, but would always keep a bike to have a dabble. Its the last couple of years that i have felt the need to ride and have the confidence to push myself...
In my opinion i feel bike riding is way harder to perfect due to the fact you have to be so committed when trying stuff as it is a lot easier to decide a trick doesnt feel right and bail on a board, than fall with a bike tangled round ya...

but the main thing is FUN
