I'm probley gonna get slagged for this......but why do people have there bars leaning forward, especially the burner mob.I own a pro burner/aero what ever the f*ck it is but i would never dream of having the bars pointing forward, when i was a teenager we used to laugh our heads off when we saw a bike with its bars forward...it was always the kids who hads a bmx but didn't know how to ride :wtf:
-
it was always the kids who hads a bmx but didn't know how to ride :wtf:
yup
the thing is with mk1 burners, is that the sweep on the bars is so dramatic that if you set the bars at a normal angle, it would be like riding a wheelbarrow
as for normal bars leant right forward, it probably down to the reason you listed
-
i dont know how old you are but 'we had a bars forward bitd because top tubes were shorter and we would bang our knees on the bars 'of course lay backs helped :daumenhoch: and top tubes got longer for example my new ripper has a 20.5 tt same as my street bike so my bars are at the same angle as my forks :daumenhoch: but bitd the top tubes were alot shorter and i had a burner and they were short frame with all the wrong angles :crazy2: but i still want one now :daumenhoch: hope this helps :daumenhoch:
-
LOL
the riders were shorter too
not ONE person back in the burner days was hankering for a longer toptube (of our age group)
the burner bars issue was due to the shit bars.
people who are building bikes with the bars right forward and levers mounted horizontally are most likely the people who never really rode a bmx seriously.
-
Had this converse before.
I used to ride with my bars slightly forward, so the grips were inline with the front axle. Didn't realise why at the time but it must have been the differrent geometries. Couldn't do tricks with the bars back as we ride today. Tried it once when i was younger and done a front flip off of a small ramp. Never rode with my bars back past vertical after that.
Never had them so they were so far forward that you looked like you were riding a racer though! :uglystupid2:

there she blows :)
-
LOL
they werent bent over forwards either by accident
the stem was done up super tight. nice riding position
that hoopty setup probably saved the frame from cracking as it was obviously ridden by a fence watcher
-
hehe :LolLolLolLol:

aside from the grips n seatpostclamp that bike has all of it's original components, as it left the factory in 85
i am even reusing the cables in the rebuild!!!
-
cool cant wait to see it. :)

I'm 39 now and remember the early burners,we had a kid round where i used to live who had a really shite looking burner mk1 he was tall and lanky and could do anything on that thing,i remember him bunnyhopping bins with the bins upright ;D360 spins on the ground and comming off a jump he was unbelievable bitd.BUT he had his bars straight :)i wasn't talking about slightly forward bars i meant bars that are so far forward it reminds me of all the pikey kids having there bars to far forward :Plike someone else said it was the kids that weren't really properly into bmx whether it be racing or freestyling :angrysoapbox:

its a burner thing :2funny: ask them  :daumenhoch:

It's true....ask them......these are people who pay serious money for a reflector?? :idiot2:
-
i like the bars forwards a bit on old school bikes. Not too much, but enough to give a jaunty angle, like the rougish cocking of a hat.....
-
i think really the bottom line is put them where you wanna
unless, you like a roughish cocking
-
;D
-
i set the bait.
-
and i took your tackle

like this thats on the bay now?? :LolLolLolLol:

Now the picture above looks ok the bars are not to far forward but i still don't get turned on by burners with bars forward :D :10_2_12:

priv took that picture earlier today
-
THE BURNER ON EBAY WAS MY BIKE :LolLolLolLol: USED AS A CRUISER HENCE THE BARS SO FAR FORWARD!! 300.00 :wtf:
-
i still have mine slightly forward from the forks line .keep moving them bit at time until they feel comfy them tighten em right up as it takes ages to get em dead right .i rode my mongoose in the 80s with them tad forward like the burner above in ruler endo position lol
-
different generation, different tricks. a lot of old school flatland is easier with the bars forward. as most old schoolers were all rounders they rode the same for ramps.
-
priv took that picture earlier today
i wish i could still do that, bad back and all that.
in that pic i look like i've got the jokers mouth :-*

I once put motorbike clip on ace bars on my redline which allowed me to drag my elbows and knees on the ground :idiot2:anyone else remember doing that ???
-
the reason bars were forward on burners is obvious, its because gypsys rode them and they used the bars as a platform to advertise thier wares, lucky heather, clothes pegs and the like. :LolLolLolLol:
-
I used to ride with my bars slightly forward, just over vertical to get a bit of lift for wheelies, ground tricks and jumping. Too far forward and the steering became sketchy and twitchy. IMHO, Burners were always too far forward for two reasons, first the riders rarely ever got them odd the ground due to the geometry so ran them further forward to get as much lift as possible. Secondly they were too stupid to tighten their stems up properly so the bars slipped further forward when landing with all that weight behind it :LolLolLolLol:
-
This Burners with the bars so far forward is a pain the a$$... There are quite a few on the Burner Forum who insist that its the only way they can fit on the bikes and ride them.
Now either they all have 5ft arms or like to ride their bikes at FUUUULLLL stretch... I dunno... but either way I do mention it quite alot when people post up pictures of their new builds.
Not only does it look ridicolous, you cannot control the bike properly and its unsafe.
This is the angle I tend to use on my Burners/Gypsy Bikes...

Apart from this one... which I built in protest/humour at some of the 'monstrosities' that were being put together on the Burner Forum.
