I've undone the all the nuts but I can't prise the black 'bearing covers' out of the frame. They are plastic with metal inserts so worried about damaging either the plastic or the chrome. Any suggestions welcome. Want to get them off so I can replace the spider with a power disk.

i think you still have a nut over the bearing????????????? undo that nut ,the use a screwddiver and hammer to knock out the sealed bearings
-
I have removed the nut showing in the pic. I'll have a go, thanks for that :daumenhoch:
-
yes i can see you have undone one but it looks like there is another one over the bearings
-
and the cups are not fitted right still sticking out lol
-
I see your problem, just take a hacksaw and cut off one of the arms, then just pull it through :LolLolLolLol:
-
If it's like the Tioga sealed bearing BB I had the you need to unscrew the second nut as LXIX says. The outer one you have already undone is only there to stop the inner one coming loose, its this inner one that fits inside the bearing. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I have undone all the nuts, I'll have another go tonight.
Also I intentionally didn't fully mount them yet, I put the cranks on and knocked them in lightly to see what they looked like, as I knew I wanted to take them off again, that's why they're not in fully but its just I couldn't get them off again. ::)
I bet you're all thinking 'bloody women' ;)

is that in a dog bed?

no worries lucy ,you just ask if you get stuck thats what the forums partly for.

is that in a dog bed?
It is, I nicked it off the dog so the padding would protect my frame and it wouldn't get scratched :) Dog was ok, he was lying on the floor ;)

Cute dog, is he yours?

Lou, if your stuck bring said
dog frame down to Braintree sunday, im sure we can sort it out for you!!!
-
Thanks Ratty but can't do this Sunday, unfortunately. I'll be fine, just need to dig the crowbar and mallet out of the shed.... ;) If that fails, I'll tie the frame to the fence and a rope round the cup and tie that to the back of the car. This thing is not going to beat me >:D :LolLolLolLol:

PMSL, Lou you have turned into a nutter, been on rad to long me thinks
-
Its a job to see from the photo, normally you undo the locknut and bearing cup and it all falls out, but if its all tight it won't move enough to let you get the crank out. Is there any way you can get a puller of some sort on the bearing cup to pull it out without damaging it ?
Hope you get it sorted out.

I had real problems with some tioga sealed one piece and did have to cut the crank LOL
