Could be a challange, but 54 miles is a long way on 20" wheels ;D

Hey Matty,

I was thinking about doing a practice run to see if I was up to the challenge, as I think it would be an awesome day out! :)
I have heard of people doing the run on bmx's, so it is possible - just depends how fit you are I suppose.

Let me know if you plan to go ahead with it. :D

June 17.... 27,000 riders! check this link...
http://bhf.org.uk/get_involved/take_part_in_our_events/bike_rides/london_to_brighton_bike_ride.aspx

It's for the British Heart Foundation. I actually had a heart attack in Nov (only 30 and fit, so get your cholesterol checked fellas!) so i thought i could give something back......as long as it's not another heart attack......which on a bmx is  possible ;D

If it's to help the British Heart Foundation, then I guess a lot of us oldies will be helping by not taking part....  :LolLolLolLol:

i do think it's a good idea, but i'm sure i couldn't do it without killing myself.

i think we should see if fish will do it and see if he can talk the whole distance...  :LolLolLolLol:

i wouldnt do it if i were you especially if youve been ill 57 miles is a fair trek on a roadie your liable to do yourself some damage on a bmx you wouldnt have a heart attack cause you wouldnt have the gearing to get your heart rate up that much just scooby doo legs but i reckon the riding position would be murder on your back knees arms and neck over that distance and wouldnt do your arse or legs any favours either

Kin tuff enough on a mountain bike and when you get to Ditchling Hill forget about ridin up it  :D

i spoke to my mate last night he has done it 10 times
and that hill ,he said its like a mountain then a big down hill.
rearly quite hard so a re-think me thinks or just do some of it
there is also another ,southend ride.

I crashed on that bloody hill, tried riding up it and cramp set into me legs and locked em straight.....had to bail out into the bushes  :LolLolLolLol:

The best bit is the other side, first time i had seen 40mph on a bicycle speedo  ;D

Reckon i'm gonna try it on a more suitable bike....the romance of 50 odd miles on the Ripper would prob fade at around croydon.

I done it last year on a Mtb, 4hrs 7mins, but it was hard work  :(

But well worth doing...

i did it on my old Torker 280 in '92 !

skyways & comp 3's humming all the way (pumped em up nice & hard)  :daumenhoch:

to be honest it wasn't that bad, we were overtaking people all the way down there & as long as you just keep going you'll be fine, had to push it up the Beacon though  :(
BMX'x are better for climbing than you think but the Beacon is a monster of a hill, it takes half an hour to push your bike up it
i reckon we could have got up it if we hadn't done 50 miles on Knobblies in 44/16 to get to it  :idiot2:

you'll love it, when we did it we got loads of support & cheers from people on roadbikes & MTBs as nobody was really even riding BMX in 92 let alone dumb enough to do London to Brighton on one  :idiot2:

i think it was58 miles that year, the routes always vary a bit  but we still made good time
we were dropped off in London about 6 ish & bypassed the official start by riding out of the way a bit (the wrong way  ::)) & just got going as the others from work were all on faster bikes & we wanted a bit of a head start
funny thing was we were worried about getting there in 12 hours as the van home left at 6pm so we were just thinking "oh well it doesn't matter how hard it is we got all day to do it" but NOBODY from work caught us up
our hour headstart was enough & we just spun away & got down there before mid day (including a couple of stops for nosebleeds & puking etc) and beat the lot of em  :daumenhoch:

then they were accusing us of getting the train, w@nkers :tickedoff:

we did it & it was easier than we thought, but we never did it again   ::)

well not until '99 on my cannondale when i popped my knee on Turners hill, fair bit of pain the rest of the way  :'(

Cheers Showtime! That's sort of bringing me back round to the BMX plan again. ;)
And cos i live in Brighton, there's the added incentive of having to get home whatever the pain...
