Title: How Flat are Your Tabletops
Post by: Bigplinky on March 10, 2007, 08:01 PM
From the very first BMXA I ever bought (nov 82), this image of Bob Medrano has stuck with me for 25 years and I've still never got anywhere near this flat off a straight dirt jump. Just thought I'd share, enjoy.

Geth, those shots rule! Nice how over the years your tables have gone past just a table, and moved towards the more new school "un lookback". Very very nice.

I can only do tables, although I have tried to learn lookdowns/backs, X-ups, I always come back to just laying one down. I will try and post some pics on Monday.

That ramp still sounds good now mate, good style on that photie aswell by the way.

I've seen a few Freestlye MX comps on the telly over the last few years and have become a bit numb to Can Can backflips etc, the one thing I have seen in the last year that blow me away (apart from the double back flip) was a guy doing a no handed Whip (table top) it was so feckin cool still don't know how he did it

OK, its official. I have been doing the same, one air variation for almost 25 years, and it’s been pretty much unchanged for the last 15! I had a look at the pics I’ve got scanned and if I’m not doing a lip trick … I’m doing a table top.

Alex,

That last one is mint!
Flat as a pancake. Wheel turned up. Pretty much a textbook table!

It also a pic that sums up BMX to me.
No-one really watching.
No one to show off to.
Doing it cos it feels good! :smitten:

By the way. There's nowt wrong with lip tricks either.
I started learning them at 30.....I want to learn more! They're harder than they look!

Bill, I know what you mean about tables on ramps. You are leaning over anyway and if its a vert ramp, you should be flat without even trying. Having said that ... those are still great shots! Goofey footed, just like your lad.

Thanks for the kind works. I put it down to the photographer (www.sunilphoto.com). He has been riding for about 25 years and taking photos/doing vids for almost as long. Nice one Sunil.

Heres another shot for the thread. Gogo, KOC, 1995, street jump box. This is a great one foot table. Im not just posting it because of the bike he's riding. Come on!!!

Here's one for Zippy: The cover shot of US ride, 1993.

This photo was on the cover of the sixth issue of Ride and is considered by many to be the best Ride cover of all time—Vic’s perfect execution of a timeless trick definitely makes it hard to beat. —Z

Thats the great thing about a table top I guess!

My feeble entry from Southsea in 83......not particularly awesome but I was proud of it back then  :daumenhoch:

I think my favourite table top air picture is of John Hudson at their half pipe when Action Bike came up the one and only time. I remember Nick P mentioning about the angle of the seatpost in the pic, pretty over table top for it's time. I think it was the same issue when there was a picture of his brother Mick doing a no handed at 13 and if you knew how big Mick was, he made Carlo look huge, it was amazing. Love to see the photos again if anyone remembers then or has them.

Thanks.

Daz.
