well its been a while in the making but i think it was worth it....
after building the team rp for personal indulgence and then my reynolds rep as a brainwave,
i decided it was time to expand the collection with a freestyle orientated bike.
raleigh basically did the styler as a reaction to the freestyle fashion yet they did a half attempt in my eyes.
therefore the brief for this build was to create something that was entirely freestyle, refected the fashion of that era of bmx yet was essentially a raleigh.
ive always loved the haro sport, and the styler i was using as a abse was ashade of turqouise, this coupled with the mad pinks and greens of the freestyle era mean the bike had to be haro sport turquoise.
after this i got a small decal that said 'raleigh burner styler series'
this was a real find, it legitimated my styler as a burner and was a great finishing touch. it was an official stamp. it came in team blue font so i felt i had to incorporate this into the build. also i was fortunate to inherit a set of immaculate black raleigh mags from a friend which decided the components colour, white wall tires were a freestyle must so black and white became a feature,
- on the tange grips, the freestyle diacompes, the chequer valve caps and then on the handler kashimax seat.
the freestyle parts i included after discussions with the guys on rad were...
- a kashimax handler, a brand raleigh used but a freestyle variant, the font on the side matches well and i used white to tie in the padset tho i do have a spare black one, but its font is gold
- genuine raleigh frame standers in chrome from ginnys, i used the same style pedals to match in
- dia compe FreeStyle brake set, a brand used by raleigh but a freestyle specific brakeset
- raleigh double top tube freestlye bars
- freestyle tread tyre witha tread pattern that matches the ones found on the wildcat and vektar
- a potts mod stem, in the shape of a suntour stem with a hollow bolt, custom pads to allow for this
- old skool style front pegs, as fitted to this era bike
the biggest stumbling blocks were the decals and the pads, as i believe this is the first custom styler resto ( bar the yellow one which uses original decals).
jon bmx man and steve esem design were fantastic redrawing all the artwork and reproducing these indiviual items
the good news is this needs done only once and now they are avaialble to anyone via their sites!!
hope u enjoy the pics, comments good or bad welcome, and thanks to everyone who had an input..
Dave.

Just check out the quality of resto work... some nice features.... :coolsmiley:
If they can't appreciate it for what it is.. a very high standard of work on a budget frame and forks... end result = 1980's :smitten:
Be nice guys!! :knuppel2:

like i say weird fair fooks though , ive got stamps made for my mongose obsession im not in a position to critisize but its still weid to see someone pay such itnetion to detail to something to something so mundane IMHO
-
You,ve made those 3 bikes look like they've rolled outta the factory :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
I 've never wanted a Burner , but I can appreciate the time and effort put into these !

I imagine that the burner obssession is very much like people restoring Ford Escorts. They were crap and mundane but people loved them.
I like Burners because they were part of my bmxing history. I have to say i do prefer the upmarket Aero Pro in particular though. :daumenhoch:
-
you've done a nice job on that, mate
-
Good work :daumenhoch: Not my cup or tea but i can see you have put a lot of love into those bikes, nice one ;) ;)
-
ive got some weinman 1020's that would work better on that.
-
Stunning 8)
-
LOL. Nice colour man. ;)
-
Nice work and I can appreciate the craftsmanship in the stickers and padset, but you know what they say.................
.........you can't polish a turd :LolLolLolLol:
-
why do ppl on here disregard the burner so much ????? when i was small most of us had burners only the ones with rich mum n dad had other bmx s even then they got the piss ripped out of em or there bikes nicked
where the burner was quite common yer could leave it in yer garden while yer had yer t
unless it had some nice bits on it then it would get nicked mine did only thing diffrent on mine was the rear wheel as i broke the tuff it was enought for it to get nicked though !!!!!!
-
.........you can't polish a turd :LolLolLolLol:
And how many times do i say yes you can polish a turd ;)
You've done a great job D14vd :daumenhoch: Love the colour (ive got a mongoose the same colour)

Wether you like them or not Burners are a big part of old school bmx history so thumbs up from me :daumenhoch:
-
very very much appreciated chaps,
i like all feedback good bad or indifferent, but have been getting really good responses on this one.
i do burners cos they are the only memories of bmx i have, i dont have any emotional ties to any othher bikes, nor do i have the budget for em hehhe
-
nice few bikes you got there, wouldnt mind getting myself a burner
