Title: credit to ratty
Post by: superbikedan on April 02, 2007, 11:21 PM
gotta say this, never seen the racing section come alive as much as

whats been posted lately and to me it ratty who's promoting old skool

racing with a passion and commitment that's got so many rad members

loving the race scene again,  never seen so many threads, posts and pics in

the last year as whats being posted now,      baintree,  highest gate turn out

so far and it's going to get bigger :coolsmiley:

bmx started as racing but today seems freestyle is the forefront

of bmx,  i know i take loads of pics of freestye but i allways try and take

as many pics of the old skool boys as i can,   i promote the younguns

as well as old skool and nothing gives me more pleasure than an old skool ripper,

eg,    rory saturday night at skaterham :4_17_5:

ratty yov've put spice back into the old skool racing scene :)

so again well done tony, keep it up mate, you have set the race scene alive again :daumenhoch:

wow, thanks Dan, that post has made a shite 24 hours a bit better,
I do love the racing, and I know i  am 4 stone too heavy and far too slow to be any good now, but its all about the buzz, that adrenalin rush out of the gate or the peformance bowl, you just cant beat it.

Please dont forget the other two who helped kick the idea off, Nishiki14 and BMX796, they dont talk as much as me but they have as much input into the series, in fact it was Sam who got us involved at Braintree in the first place.

BMX racing has moved a long way since me and you (Dan) bumped bars over at RoM, the speed and skill nowadays doesnt cease to amaze me, the bikes have changed a lot as have the kits (team tango) but the excitement will never change.

I hope the series gives any of the old school peeps a chance to relive the buzz and get involved in the best sport in the last 30 years

and i love taking pics ;D  i did both and loved both,     it's all bmx,

sometimes i'm stunned how good some old skool freestyle boys are on their bikes,

for you it's the racing and now the racing section is alive and the boys are loving it :)

I started racing about seven years ago when my boys were racing regularly at Braintree every Wednesday night.  It started with dads races and progressed from there.  The resurgence of the Old Skool scene has given me an opportunity to get out there more often with guys who aren't trained up to the hilt to beat the Alan Hill's of the world and are out there just for the fun of it.  Hersden started the whole OS thing and the day we ran a race at Braintree with Craig Schofield and a few of the other top guys from bitd just seemed to trigger things off.  The OS guys are a great bunch to ride with, be it on the track or over the Heath (another OS phenomenon) and I'm grateful to Ratty and the guys for getting this Summer Series moving.  Born two months before the Festival of Britain I know I'm really too old to be doing this but it's just sooooo much fun - hence the permanent grin!!  I wish I had known about BMX racing in the '80s but by then I had already been destroying cars on the oval racing circuits for a number of years and was too far into that scene to look elsewhere and my kids didn't come along until the '90s (late starter!!).  Big props to everyone involved in the Series and if you're thinking of giving it a try be assured that there's plenty of room at the back of the field with me.   :LolLolLolLol:  Humps

Hello, I was replying to this last might when my computer said "NO" and shut down :tickedoff: To get back on track for what this thread was started for.........RATTY, I've known Tony for nearly as long as i've been on this planet, 27 years ago we met and in all that time I have never met such a passionate bloke when it comes to BMX, he got me back into the sport I love so much and I thank him for that, I have met friends old and new and I feel like we are on the brink of making BMX as big as it was BITD, I've witnessed this man take on Andy Ruffles and Keith Wilson and beat them (more than once and I have it on film) and in the world of BMX he stands head and shoulders above everyone else :daumenhoch: Tony, your the nuts mate, thanks (and you 796) :4_17_5:

Thanks Sam,
and thanks everyone who gives a toss about BMX, without you old farts (and Flaz) I would be getting ready to try on slippers ready for retirement.
The guys who turn up to these meets have got balls, its a frightening prospect walking up that start hill ready to throw yourselves down into the first straight at 25mph, and as you do get older there is a real prospect of doing yourselves damage as Vinoah and Spillers have found out (get mended soon guys).
If you read this thread and want to have a go, get in touch, we are the best mates you aint met yet!!

Now we are looking forward to round 2, Im sure there will be a lot of eyes on us now, The British Cycling federation have now made us an official class, the computer software has been updated to include us, with points and a ranking system. Where ever you in the country if enough OS turn up, you will get a class of your own. That in itself is a huge leap forward.

Good luck to everyone and stay safe :daumenhoch:

Ratty, BCF recognition you say?! Sweet. Any news on the OS cruiser class? Now that'd be an eye opener.

So as not to run b4 we can walk, I think we are going to save it for later on, I don't want to push our luck too much. The admin at the tracks is a mental job, I don't want to make it harder for them (yet) >:D
But it has to happen, this year :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

If anyones reading this and thinking of having a go again... then just go for it, the feeling you get will be exactly the same as you had 20+ years ago, YES im sure mortgages, jobs, women and alcohol have come along but your the same person inside if you got a buzz then youll get it now . Get your bike , get on the gate again ,balance & stand up on your pedals and i guarantee you wont be thinking about the Traffic on the North Circular ,the washing machine being on the blink or the latest going on in Eastenders.

I got my old school bike out 2 years ago having not touched a push bike in 19 years, migrated to new skool since (there was no 'New Old skool' scene then!)

give it a go you  i reckon you will be thanking Ratty and co for making you realise your still alive  :daumenhoch:

The two Tony's and Sam have done themselves proud arranging the summer series.  Well done fellas :daumenhoch: The buzz on Sunday was fantastic as was the turnout, and I cant wait for the next round to do battle again on the track.  It is starting to get serious now as the standard is getting higher, but it is also so much fun!   It is going to be a great summer!!!
