Title: New skyways stopping in about a mile

So,i have some new tuffs and original skyway freestyle tuff pads and the braking is crap

I seem to remember something about ruffing the rim or brake pads with sand paper or similar

Is this right ?

Dont attack the rims :shocked:
Are the shoes toed in correctly!!!
Ie: do they meet up square when you pull the brake!

Yes, I've heard lightly sanding the pads will help.

Also heard that rubbing coca cola onto the rims/pads is also good for stopping power.  :D

i heard that if you squirt cillit bang on the brake surface that works aswell

As ratty says toe the pads in they will work a lot better dont sand rims or put coke on them unless they are chrome!!!
Tuffs dont work with coke but a night out goes a hole lot better.

use the new type skyway pads available from alans. theyre dear but work well, especially with an acs boa.

coke does work fantastically on tuffs, tuff pads imo are overated on tuffs, diacompe brake blocks (the red ones) work well as do oddysey pads

old pads will be dry and cack

non stoppy type pads is what you have.

try the Adidas Gazelle jammed in the tyre first, its the real OS brake block

I got dia-compe ones on my recently built Aero Reflex... they work pretty good...

Hi,
I´m new in Forum.
But I also have that braking problem on TUFF II.

"now" I´m using Tuff pad "type"... and also brake in a mile away...  :2funny:

My wheels are black, can I use other color of genuine tuff pads and have no braking marks on the wheel?
I read that some people have "no brakes" even with Genuine skyway pads...

I have Dia Compe MX FS880F/901R brakeset.

The new Tuff pads are more eficient than the old one?

or use the original Dia-compe pads (light brown color padsm, with Dia-compe emboss)?

Do the 1st image pads fit in my brakeset? or only V or U brakes?

My project frame is a GT ProPerformer 1985/6. (rear brake on the upper side of the frame)

I don t recall my original GT PP in 1986 also with tuff II wheels braking so bad. (I only got more 15kg of weight since, now I´m 85kg and 35 years old...  8) )

I need some help to in this issue.

all diff colour skyway pads will leave a mark, but red on black is less noticable, the second pic of pads you got a great, the brakes you got should be fine but use em for a couple of days n re pull the cable thro to take up the stretch it will have incurred, this will minimise flex n the brakes will bite better.

In my opinion, spoked wheels stop a whole load better than skyways due to the weight of them, also you could try a smaller brake - i.e. a 900 instead of 1000 - I had 520's on my Peugeot 401 BMX and it nearly damn threw me off...

my lads has the green Hombre fiesta type bloks on his new Tuffs and they take his spleen out when he pulls the levers!   :daumenhoch:

mind you he is only 2 stone soaking wet!  :2funny:

Liking this thread, very useful, I didn't realise you could use Dia Compe brake blocks on mags...mmm gonna try that 2nite.

I did buy some of these for my Zytecs but don't do anything in stopping  :(

The more I read.. the more confuse I get.
the opinion are very diferent...

..some says that the regular genuine Skyway pads.. rulez!!!!
and others says that the new generation pads rulez...

I have the "Type" pads ... I don t know if they are cool stop... but they sucks...

I remember that in the old days I didnt  have those problem... it was fitting them and that´s it.
maybe the "rubber" dont remain the same with time... passing by.

I will try the new gen of pads... and then... I will try whatever black pads in market.. since its a Black wheel...
and let´s see what happen.  :-[
