I got this bike a while ago but didn’t get round to finishing it. It was pretty much ready to go but it had no brake on it. I came with Slams and a TNT stem that I wanted to change (I might change the cranks soon) and also wanted put on a padset and a plate.
I heard that some of the guys were going up to MK track on good Friday so I got my sheet together and got the bike finished Thursday night.
I am very happy with it, I really think it’s my fav bike I own (although I wouldn’t wanna put pegs on it!). The frame is as shown in the 1994 S&M catalogue so its probably around that age. Its 21 top tube and a 15” back end, even with the wheel all the way forward!
I went to MK track once in about 1986 (when it was just built) but I’ve never been their since. Apart from a few times here and there I haven’t really been on a BMX track since, and defiantly not for many years. The challenger rode so nice, it just felt natural and I didn’t have any hesitation jumping a few sets of doubles second time round the track. Now I wanna go back again and pick of a few more of them (not so sure about the triples or the quads).
Challenger frame 1” headtube, 21” top tube, 990s
Pitchforks, 1” threaded
Challenger bars (like slams but with thinner walled tubes) Cut down to about 25” wide
Shafted redneck with wedge Jackson
Araya 7x, chrome. With silver GT Mohawk hubs. 15t freewheel
GT stamped profiles
s+s chainring (41t)
S&M “DX” pedals
41 chainring (not sure what make)
GT Epoc headset
Tioga comp3s (fat front, skinny rear)
Italia swade seat
cro-mo seat post
TNT seatpost clamp
Dia Compe 990 and Tech 77 (Very bent)
ODI Longnecks that go way down the curve of the bars
S&M padset
UGP plate

S&M named their first out and out race frame after the space shuttle. "So light that if you take if off the ground it will explode!". Bad taste? yes. True? I hope not!
-
nice one dude :)
-
That's nice Alex! Love the UGP plate!
-
That looks sweet, those mid school rides are great - they move the genre forward but retain a lot of the old school style :daumenhoch:
-
yes alex, thats sweet as fook,
its the earlier version of mine, with the seatstay wishbone is it?
love the old selle seat, nice touch there :4_17_5:

Thats the one, bit of a strange seatstay wishbone that even has a hole so you could use a sidepull brake

Yellow decals are what it needs but I dont have any, anyone got any?. YGT has got a scan of them but I dont know where to get them printed. I really need to find a sticker printer.
-
thats a big back end she's got there! ooh er sailor!
very nice though, i want a ride,
theres something so elegant looking about the "1 frames,
if you get the yellow stickers re-popped put me down for a couple of sets for the future, it'll bring the cost down too,
-
alex you ripped friday, are you crap at anything? and your kids are cool ;)

s+s sprocket! Thanks. I didnt know what it was. I might have changed it for something else but its 41 teeth and I dont have another. The bike had matching TNT seatclamp and stem but I changed the stem to a redneck. You might know where I got that from Gogo! Thanks, it really finishes of the bike.
-
That plate rocks, really sets the whole thing off. Lovley bike and it'll look sooooo sweet with the yellow decals. :4_17_5:
Shame I'm broken at the moment, I would have love to come over MK for the session. Next time maybe.
-
I could picture Dave Clymer on that bike, whatever happened to him?

Technially I may have some leads in regards to people helping repop thos challenger stickers, but it would need 10 people willing to buy a set at 18 plus a couple of quid postage (and when i say repop i mean screen printed ..... not vinyle cut or some odd computer print out) only thing is that you may need to check with Mr Moeller directly as I know hes very twitchy about collectors repoping or converting stuff .... and I dont want to be the face that gets held accountable if moeller gets pissed.
-
that bike is far too dialled for clymer!!! lolZ
the sprocket is a s+s tigertooth, alex. they were a mail order store out of the u.s. who made their own sprockets. no worries about the stem, better than lying in my loft gathering dust!

I will ask Moeller about redoing stickers, I'll send him a pic of the bike and that might help. I can see if it was just one person making a set it wouldnt be a problem but if someone printing a few and making money from it, its another thing. I am guessing that for 18 a set, no one is making any money!
I'll let you know if I get a reply,

nice
