Just thought I'd share my knowledge.

DX pedals & all pedals that contain magnesium which most if not all cast pedals contain, are not anodisible. This is through trial & error. They come out dark grey. In my exparience CNC pedals from a block or pure alli will take the dye. PK frames come out fantastic if they are polished 1st..Flovals look awsome too.. Remember it's all in the prep. Polish to mirror 1st & make sure that frame is super clean & boom it goes on a treat.

Another tip in the prep is to tape up (lead tape used for roofing only) the seats where the cups would go. So head set & bottom bracket. So once the anodised process is done, peel off the tape & where the cups touch the frame, this should still be raw (no colour) This will then give you no problems when you squeeze those cups back in & assemble again.

I Just spent 6 months getting everything alli on my bike done (this time frame includes sorcing of correct parts aswell). I got all mine done down south & frames are the hardest to get right. Because all the holes (to expel heat when welding up) in the frame fill up in the dipping process & it's the draining out which is the tricky part. If your not carefull it will run out & leave smears like stains & have to be stripped again & start over. If your thinking about plugging the holes well you can't because then the frame will float in the tanks & you can't have that..

Finding someone A, to take on the job of a frame & B, to get it right. Is a tough one.

Here's my trusty steed..

pic1london you know ya stuff
frames are the hardest to do but when youve done a few motorbike frames a bmx frame is a little easier not much.  your right it is all in the prep work to get that better finish. pic1london out of curiosity who and how much for your frame and what colour is it?

paul

Interesting stuff... So, can you test for magnesium content, or is it just a suck it and see process?
Title: Re: anodising services and prices "PIMP YOUR BIKE"
Post by: customparts on May 29, 2007, 12:34 AM
my rule on aluminium is
if its painted its painted for a reason and if its anodised it can be redone again and again and again.  for example car alloys these are aluminium (and magnesium) but are always painted. most brakes on bikes are anodised because its decent stuff some will be painted but this is because you can't get white and some are painted to match the bike.

we dont know what the metal is like until we start doing it. aluminuim has change so much recently you get a lot of crap in it now which makes our life a bit harder.

Nice job on the frame there pic1london!
pic1londn is a guy I know called Perry who is another SE fanatic - I sold hime a pk ripper once!
That cruiser he had  done gold looks very much like an Alliant Pro - am I right?
Ive got a load of stuff in with customcolour at the moment, Spoke to paul about frames and in the end he said he doesnt weant to do them as its a ong and difficult job, which is fair enough.
Im still on my search for a 90's anodised Purple Ripper frame though - SE used to do them - I'll find one one day!

If anyone is interested I might be able to offer my services ??

I will only take on new or NOS parts which have already been prepped tho. ie; polished.

I can't do second hand used scuffed parts because it will not make then new & get rid of the skuffs.

Here is my Alliant 24 frame NOS & fully polished before anodising..

Hello guys and girls
I spoke to Mark(top guy) today and he said he will NOT be stopping anodising parts for us  :4_17_5:  :) the problem is he is very very busy with there main jobs that pull in all the money for the firm and they will not jepordise them for little bits and peices(bmx parts) He explained that our parts may take a little longer than usual as they do them when they have a little spare time in between their main work, once or twice a month .He explained that he doesn`t want to try and squeeze the jobs in and send out a bad job as they want to keep producing a 1st class product.
He said give them a ring before sending the bits and he will give you a rough estimated  turn around time :daumenhoch:
Hope this helps some of you out :daumenhoch:
