Title: WHOPPA WATKINS WORLD CHAMPION CRUISER FRAME?
Post by: baldbmxer on April 11, 2007, 06:32 PM
I lent the Redline PL24 cruiser forks to a friend of mine so that Mark'Whoppa' Watkins could ride his old 'World Championship' Wilson cruiser down at Bournemouth the year before last. Sadly Mark didnt show and the bike didnt get ridden.

My freind Rob who had built the bike returned the forks to me today along with most of the bike still attached! Thanks mate!
I was always a big fan of Marks BITD, even beat him a couple of times which was nice. He was a true ambassador for the sport and alround good egg!

I believe this to be the 24'' Wilson that he rode to victory at the 83 or 84 world in Japan. Some homework to do there! I have seen other Wilson 24's with round tubing but this has a kind of eliptical downtube similar to a Skyway TA or Areo Pro Burner.

Always room for a bit of BMX history at JJ's!

Mark Watkins was a tall guy! The bars to be truthfull are not the ones he rode with BITD.

Dont think anyone could ride that set up at speed!  ;D

The wheels are sooooooooooooooooo nice!

I used to know Mark quite well, used to race him every wednesday night down Wordsley - I even beat him once when his chain snapped under the terrific power he was exerting on it!!

Here's a still of him from an old cine film on a wednesday club night taken by my dad (he's in white, red and black gear)
