Title: Nitromors to clean up steel rims.
Post by: adam on April 13, 2007, 09:57 PM
Hi all,

Just started cleaning up my Dyno (See, Newbie first post.............),  anyway the steel rims look tatty as the braking surfaces are chrome and the rest is black.   I have done searches here and the general opinion on stripping paint is to use Nitromors.  Seeing as I haven't used it before I just wanted to check it's use on bike stuff.

Do I paint/spray it on and leave it or do I need to keep brushing over it and checking when it is doing its job.

Also, does it damage the metal surface of the rim ?  I'd like to be able to polish it afterwards.

 Many Thanks........Adam

P.S.  Pre cleanup pics are here  http://www.adboo.com/bmx.htm   I'll post more as work progresses.

no, it only lifts paint.

best bet is to dab it on, leave for 30 min, then power wash it off.

ooooohhhhhhhhhhh powerwashing nitromors, watch your eyes young fella, make sure you have goggles on if your doing that although you may have a problem if there anodised aluminium as i dont think nitromors touches anodising?

Cheers for that guys.

As for wearing goggles, you try doing anything at work without wearing goggles in this day and age !     I'll be doing risk assessments for opening cans of tango next, in case the spray hits someone !

Just an update, couldn't find Nitromors in my local builders merchants so I bought "Mangers" instead.    It got the paint off beautifully well within the 30mins,  it was coming off while I was brushing it on !

Anyway the rims now look a lovely chrome finish which will be much better when I have polished and waxed it.

Don't have my camera here but I'll post more shots to my site when I get the chance.
