Title: Mid school: The poor mans old school?
Post by: SaMAlex on April 17, 2007, 07:51 AM
One of the cool things about Mid school is that most parts arent silly prices. I got another set of S&M "DX" pedals this week. This whole lot cost about half what one pair of Shimano DXs would, let alone Hutch! (although Im not one to worry about condition).

The more I see this mid school stuff the more I like it. That yellow S&M Challenger has really got me thinking of building a good mid school bike next.

look at those beauties! :4_17_5:
can i have the yellow ones for my challenger please?!!

£250 for a pair of shimano dx's is just obscene  :idiot2:
silly prices like this are whats actually ruining the "old-school-bmx scene", they make it completely inaccessable to regular folk and it starts to become an "elitist wankfest"

The yellow ones are totally brand new, un-used. I got them ages ago and didnt like the colour. You can have them for £250!  :LolLolLolLol:

Just joking. I want to keep them cos I want to build a classic Yellow Holmes. I know the pedals were out a bit later than most of the bikes I want to build, but who cares, they are perfect pedals to use on any S&M!

Mid-school? Poor man's? Cheap? Tell my wallet that!

 ;D

NOS stuff is harder to find than Old School at the moment as it hasn't all been discovered in the backs of shops yet - and also not as much was made as BMX had lost it's universal popularity of the 80's.

In my experience putting together a mid-school is much much harder than an old school, and because of the rarity of NOS parts, not cheap either.

Doh. I forgot about that riding thing. I just look at them, wipe them with a soft cloth and tuck them up in bed - is that not what Mat intended?

..........but the surface to be painted must be well polished first. i painted a chrome headset with red glass paint and it looks sweet. i did the same with a set of polished DX cranks and it showed every blemish in the casting.

where did you get your DX pedal caps?
