Title: I've found a true survivor ;-)
Post by: Olliecw on April 22, 2007, 10:03 PM
Hello all
I had to go round my girlfriends mum & dads house to day to fit a new bathroom light......When i got in the loft to sort out the wiring i saw looming in the corner a bmx ??? To my amazment there standing  untouched since the early 80's was a mongoose california lite :D It still has all the genuine parts down to the pads and stickers.I spoke to the dad about it and said he bought it for the girls around 82-83 ish but counld'nt remember the actual year. Can anyone tell me the year of this bike and is it a cali lite.
I 've already got the bike stripped down ready for a good clean up and i will be keeping it as a survivor as its in great condition :2gunsfiring_v1:
Here a couple of pics of the project bike
Thanks
Ollie

California Lite is just the name of the padset.

The mongoose california is the later bike (without the O gusset).

Don't know the exact model of yours, but it may just be called a Mongoose.

Great find with some choice parts and in awesome condition.

I think that's earlier than an 82-83 Model. Great find can't quite see but that looks like it could be a proper Mongoose Gold Stem under the stem pad aswell.

Nice ;)

sweet find :daumenhoch: last of the gusseted geese. dubbel clamp stem, goose stainless bars all in all a nice survivor, just leave it as is and it's cool.

Thanks again all :daumenhoch:
I'm gonna just clean the bits up but not change anything on it .(except the tyres & cables)
It's surprisingly all cleaning up good so far :) it's been a bit of a job polishing each spoke up though :idiot2:

Use one of those green brillo type pads first on the spokes, then polish them.  :daumenhoch:
