Title: Question?
Post by: beard1973 on April 23, 2007, 07:57 PM
Are either of these worth buying and how much would be a reasonable price?

Both of these are NOS and for sale in a shop I went in today... are they any good?

POWERLITE FS PRO

DYNO VFR

I know diddly squat about mid-schoolish bikes...  :-[

I personally would say no.

The dyno vfr just screams uber chav.
The powerlight is ok, but nothing special .... value of 50 squid at max.

I am pressuming you get what you see... Frame, forks, headset, seatclamp, seat post and crank and bottom bracket...

So £79 don't seem too bad... he had 3 of the Powerlite's and just the one Dyno...

I can call later in the week and see if this the deal... Maybe not too bad after all... I fancy a bit of midschool..

Not wanting to turn a good thread all political, but:

I heard that GT used to "help" smaller BMX companies out, maybe they got the frames made at GT, that kind of thing. Then, with some "Help" from GT, they found themselves in financial trouble, maybe more frames than they could sell, or suddenly no getting frames when they needed them. Then, GT would be really "helpful" and offer to buy-in to the company ... just to help them out, like. Before you knew it, GT had another brand under their wing, and one less competitor.

Just what I heard, not saying that happened with Powerlite or Dyno or Auburn.

I was back in Sheffield last week and the shop still has these frames for sale... £79 each

The guy was busy with another customer so never got chance to talk with him... I'm 99% sure the frame & forks comes with Stem, Headset, Seatpost & Crank..

I'm extremely tempted at £79 to get the powerlite.... what you guys think? I have no mid-school knowledge what-so-ever!!!  :P but they look like lovely F&F's and minty fresh NOS.

it's not a bad deal mate....but the VFR has Canti brake lugs and the Powerlite looks like it has AD lugs on it??

so i don't think any of them are OS race legal??

Never to miss a chance....i have an MCS Magnum XLX feame, forks, headset, stem and crank fitted all for £90

Those Powerlites are cool frame. Remember Trevor Myer riding one with custom made Powerlite freestyle
 Bars.

the vfr `s are bloody heavy as had one here ages ago and got 15 for it and nice frame but i don`t think it full chromoly which made it real heavy

personally i'd steer well clear of both if i were you. the vfr was a cheap kids bike at about £159 for the full bike i think, the powerlite freestyle frames all looked similar just in different grades of tubing, thickness of dropouts etc, from the pick it looks like a fairly low spec model. probably around the £200 pound mark to rival the dyno compe, gt performer! they're almost certainly made from 1020 hi tensile steel! if your wanting a mid school ride, keep the money for now and find something better on ebay for the same price!
