Thought I would post these pics up as I have just posted them on another site where I found a thread started by another girl I used to race against at nationals....found myself on one of her pics so scanned these up to show her.Â
I liked the Kendal track...went a couple of times I think. Believe it's not there anymore?! This wasn't a national meeting, though it was similar, as I know everyone was travelling down to Slough or Hounslow ( i think, it was down south anyway) that night I think for the next race the day after...I know I dind't end up going cos my dad got p*ssed off big style cos I didn't come in the top 3. I'm in the white jacket.

Home of the mint cake.
Ku, no it aint there anymore.
like most.
-
Sam, that's not Kendal. It's Coxmoor track!
-
Geth...you sure?? Know c0cksmoor was in the trees, but remember Kendal being a bit treey too. Has got Kendal written on back of my piccy..tho that means nowt! lol
This is only pic I have of c0cksmoor, a national, I came 3rd overall, was the only time I went (I think), and I know this wasn't on the same day.

Oh yeh....I know,,crappy V bars, but my dad thought with them being narrower I oculd handle bike better...got my laser bars on it later though ;D
-
I never went to kendal, coxmoor was my favorite track, that steep starting hill made for exciting racing, does look like coxmoor to me ?
Jon W
-
Hmm...got me puzzled now. ???
And why are my pics suddenly massive when posting them up here?
-
I'm pretty positive that is Coxmoor. I rode down that hill with my leg in plaster in '86 and jumped the doubles on the next straight! I had some fun until I fell down the back of the first berm in the picture......it hurt!
-
Have asked member on other site if she ever went to Kendal, so if she hasn't, I am def wrong! lol.
Plus, Geth, you will have raced C0ocksmoor many more times than me so you're the one who would know. :)
Seem to remember you walked up to C0cksmoor start hill by the left hand side....not sure if there was path by the right as it shows in first pic.
-
Defo, walked up on the left hand side, I remember that muh for sure !
Here is a pic of Coxmoor in the snow  and if it makes you feel better, my pics are massive as well !!!

Nice to see someone else in Joyda gear ;D
Everyone...well..ALMOST everyone had it in the north west!
-
Here's your pic with some dodgy lines on!
The second circle is where your picture was taken.
The yellow line is where the track used to go. You did a sharp right where your pic is taken and looped around to the bottom of the hill. This track layout was used in the 84 Kellogs round that was there.
The white line is the track as used later on.
The red line is, as you & Jon say the path back up to the top.

Jon,
I raced at Coxmoor once and we had to clear the track of snow first.
I reckon I must have been there that day too....
When we were young and keen eh!? I'd never race in that now!
-
Too true,, I remember that day really clearly, man did it ever snow, it was good fun at the time, but coxmoor in the dry was absolutly amazing, you could just get so much speed up, and who dares wins was always the key !!!
-
Who dares wins just about sums it up.
It wasn't the speed as such though, it was the berm at the bottom that had hardly any banking on it. I seem to remember loads going over it at full speed!
-
Geth you have too much time on your hands....Get some work done!!!
-
I can remember sleeping in my dads car in those woods near the finish line at the National in 1985. No going to hotels BITD!
-
im pretty sure its Coxmoor too!! ;)
-
Hello Becki, notice this is only your 02nd post,
Welcome !!
Nosnod, them were the days - it was all a bit basic back then, but that was half the fun of it
-
Thanks...... the "other" girl KuSam is on about is me....... kitted out in the Birmingham Wheels gear :D
Its certainly bringing back some memories!! ;D
-
Ahh yes Ku Sam - its good to see sam posting again ,,
Stick around Becki, it s a good place to hang out !!
Did you race for the wheels team >?
I only raced at Wheels track once, not sure why that was, did they do UKMBX rather then NBMXA events ???
-
Yeah i raced for Wheels.... we pretty much did both UKBMX and NBMXA.... ran a pretty hectic racing life bitd!!
Some of my pics can be found here.....
http://community.webshots.com/user/beckimaiden
..... no laughing now!!! ;D
-
have i seen those before, when I was on bmx talk site ?
;D Of course I wont Laugh
I love seeing all the old race pics, I can't understand why I only raced wheels once, I did all the WM regionals for 2 or three years NBMXA ?
Did wheels have traffic light startgin gates or am i dreaming that one ?
-
Birmingham wheels was mostly UKBMX early on. I think they only got an NB national 86 or 87. I could be wrong.
AND it did have traffic light starts.
Sean....
Work is something that gets in the way of BMX. Haven't you worked that out yet!?
-
Thanks Geth, that would explain why i only raced there once, I think it may have been a national i raced - so that would be right !
Jon W
-
I think I only ever raced there once or twice too, but I worked there in '86 so spent most of my working time riding that track anyway!
Here's a pic I took back then when messing around there. One for the history books I think....

Redline factory rider Scott Clark with Birmingham in the background!
-
Becki....Hiya...nice to see you over here.
OK, Looks like it's def c0cksmoor!! Reckon I must have been there more than once then ;D
Jon, if you look at Beckis pics on her link, I am number 970 in the pic at Derby.
-
Becki, I didn't ignore you earlier. We had a power cut at work!
-
No probs... i had to dash off work early anyway.... speedway called!!! :)
-
Becki....hope my mail got through to you :)
-
It is definately Coxmoor track, the first layout without the built up first berm and stepup. With Chelmsley and Wheels it was one of my local tracks.First raced there at the pre-kelloggs meeting in 1984 and pretty much every Wednesday evening club race through till '86.
Becki, were you on the wheels team at the same time as Raggy(Steve Grice)? I'm also sure Simon Lawther was on here recently.
-
Here's the ste-up on the re-vamped Cox moor track.
Courtesy of Dave Morris.
One thing I found out when trying to post this pic is that this site won't even allow dodgy words in the file name of the pic. COX in Coxmoor was spelt differently at first and the board changed it to glockenspiel!!!! It took me a couple of minutes to work out why it wouldn't put the image up.
Is this why you were having trouble Sam?
Name the riders?
-
hi Kellogs.....
Steve Cragg, Simon Lawther, Matt & Stuart Bushell, Elaine & Ian Ball, Dean Bateson, Trev Robinson are the guys i can remember who raced with me for Wheels...oh and not forgetting (how could I!!), Scottie Beaumont :)
and Sam...... i got your email.... ive sent you one back ;)
-
Geth. yup. thats why I couldn't post the pic of c0cksmoor in the "Find the old track" thread, it wouldnt even allow the pic to be posted from Photobucket ;D So have taken to using a zero instead.
I don't remember that big step up. Will have to look back at the c0cksmoor pic with the added lines you put on for me.
Becki, email not received yet..probably come at 3am again. lol
-
Sam,
The step-up came later.
I think on your pic it was just like a roll-over type of affair. Good fun as you were picking speed up for the big hill though!
I bet if a track was built like that now they wouldn't allow sanctioned races on it!!
-
Dave Morris, Steve Bigland, Whoppa, l-r.
-
that pic in the snow the rider with 796 plate i think is tony on here .
-
Greg - Thats jon the JMC fanatic
-
okay so i was wrong then ?
