Title: THE Package came .... at last!
Post by: SaMAlex on May 11, 2007, 02:02 PM
I have a mate in the US and Ive been buying parts from Ebay US and getting them sent to him (one of the ebay sales ended at Xmas!). I finally gave him the all clear to post them all to me .... sometime in March! He sent them 6 to 8 week delivery, with no value on the box to try and avoide import stings. I have been starting to worry for a week or so, thinking they should be here by now, and they just came! I am very pleased with how good it all is, everything is in great condition and well worth the wait.

24" S&M Widow maker frame (early 90s),
24" wheels on GT mowhawk hubs
GT stamped profiles with spider and Oddy pedals
First Gen Prince Albert cranks (red) with flight ring
Second Gen Pricne Albert cranks (black)

Very very happy!!  ;D

Its unreal! I wouldnt like to guess how many of those first Gen PA cranks there are around now. They didnt make that many, and most of them broke. It was typical that when they came up on Ebay, a set of Second Gen came up a few days later (and didnt sell for much). I HAD to get them as well!!  ::)

A real nice thing is that I got some 1" threaded pitchforks from Ebay about 6 months ago. When they came they were 24" (I didnt even realise at the time and I dont think seller knew as they were un-used). I put them in the shed and forgot about them. Now Ive got a bike to put them on. Im glad I've got the forks cos I wouldnt wanna be looking for 24" theaded pitchforks!

Sometimes things just work out  :daumenhoch:

Ive got a set of chrome Gay bars, redneck shafted stem, a pitbull, 24" Comp 3s. Im sure Ive got a seat post and seat and a tech 77 lever. Thats about it. nice easy build. I should be ready for a wizz round the block just in time for the rain.

These are the GT cranks that I was thinking about swapping with you for the SS (once I had changed my mind and kept the other ones I sent you pics of). I need to work things out and see what I have cos I might not need the SS cranks.

I will be sure to let you know if I do want to swap, but dont hold them for me.

Right, Im off to the shed to start building some stuff (I was going to go out riding tonight but its raining, so shed it is)

If i remember alex, the rear wheel will hve to be run near the back of the dropouts, i had plenty of tyre rub on mine all those years ago, espesh on a single skin bent rim.

thats a killer find.

does ony1 kno of a set of 24" pitchforks 1 1/8 anywhere, need some big time for me RV.

cheers
sutty

I have read that there is some problems with tyre rum on the early S&M cruisers so thanks for the tip.

There have been a set of 24" 1 1/8 pitchforks on Ebay, they have come up a few times so keep an open for them.

Well that didnt go too badly. I need to get some inner tubes and put the brake cable on, but its pretty much there.

Now, who can give me some gearing advice? Ive got a 40t flightring on there cos I found it in the shed but I could use anything on the back from 18 down to 15, or maybe 14 (as its a flip flop hub). Any ideas? Should I use a 44 to keep it early 90s? I dont really know what racers used

Looking very nice alex. As for gearing my PL24 runs 39/16, its a tad on the stiff side but does the job :daumenhoch:

thats you ready to dominate old boys cruiser class as well as 20" now.  :4_17_5:

Ha ha, dont know about domination of the old boys cruiser but Im keen to have a go. Its even more of an "old school" than my 20" challenger cos this doesnt have brake mounts (Im guessing its 92 or 93).

I sent these pics to Moeller. The frame number says SMC so I thought maybe it was a 24" challenger (its got a challenger head tube sticker). Chris wrote back as follows:

"Looks like a Widowmaker to me...made at B&E in Anaheim. The "C" is for
Cruiser and the "Challenger" had a mono-stay. Sweet!"

It was only when I sent him these pics I really noticed what great condition the frame is in. The dropouts look like they have never had a wheel in them (and they are 2 thin drop outs stuck together, sign of an early S&M). I got a 17t shimano freewheel today so Im going to try and get it all finished tonight.

Oh, and thanks darkersomeday for that scan. Id forgoten about that one. Those sequences are cool, I havent done those tricks for a few years. Well, not on a deckless spine anyway. The need to have a few more bar spins and frame whips in um to cut it today tho!
