Well I only got the frame yesterday but I got the bike all finished tonight. I had a little bit of messing about with the headset (the top part is an old GT Epoch I found) and the rear cones (they didnt really wanna fit in the frame). Also, the wheel is as far back as I can get it without using a half link and the wheel hits the frame. It hits the seat say on one side and the chain stay on the other. GREAT. Oh, and the pit bull cam bottoms out on the cable stop before the blocks have hit the rims. I had forgoten what hard work putting bikes together used to be.
I might change the wheels, Ive got some chrome rims that I might build up and use. I also might change the cranks before I ride it hard cos I dont wanna brake the Prince Alberts. Ive got for a 40:17 gearing so thanks vert squert for the flight ring.

Jesus...... that didn't take you long ;)
I do love a cruiser :daumenhoch:
-
i am very jealous
you need a sella turbo saddle for that beast, I have a brand new mini one you can have if you want
-
Rob ... No Gyro, no front brake, no need to get the brake working very well, no pegs so getting the back wheel in place was easier (almost). These racer types dont know they have been born when it comes to building bikes!
Grant ... that seat was just the best one I had in the shed for the bike. You might recognise it, I got it on a bike I got through you not long ago! I should be getting an S&M shield race seat soon so that will go on it, and probably look OK with the red stuff on it.
-
It does look a treat mate. Looks very long in the frame, Id like to have a go on that next time we bump bars :daumenhoch:

Fair point, well made ;D
Are you going to race it?
-
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!! Love the MK1 Alberts, Not many people with Widowmakers around, just you i think Alex (and Dee Snider!)
-
Are you going to race it?
I hope to. Ive got a later S&M cruiser that I use for getting around on, locking up in town, that kind of thing. Apart from that Ive never ridden a 24", def not on jumps, so I dont rate my chances much. I will still give it a go. I think it even pass as "old school" (maybe?).
-
I'm the same. I've got one of those Haro Nyquist 24 things that I rode to work on for a couple of years, but I don't think I want to ride it in anger..
-

looks well clean and has lasted very very well good stuff :4_17_5: dan
-
looks fantastic dude! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
i had the same rear wheel troubles on my last cruiser(the standard), even with the skinniest "24x1.75 tyre there was barely enough clearance to squeeze a rizla between the tyre and the frame,
primo used to make a "24x1.50 v-track tyre, i saw one on US e-bay a while back,
if you decide to sell the later s&m cruiser put me down for first dib dobs!!
great build, :4_17_5:
-
Sweet Alex, now buy a better camera.
;)
:daumenhoch:

super nice Alex :daumenhoch:
there was a complete for sale last year on the bay and I kick myself for not buying it :tickedoff:
:) DINGO :)

That's lovely mate...I've always wanted one of those..Clean build too.Strange that the wheel is so tight though.
That ticks all the right boxes for Old School racing too...MK race??Be nice to have some more cruisers this year. :daumenhoch:

Very nice :daumenhoch:
Needs a pink seat though ???
-
Sweet Alex, now buy a better camera.
This is a bit better, although its still just taken using my phone. I really should spend some time clearing up my garden!

Very Cool Alex :4_17_5:

lovely bike alex, feck the garden thats for when your old, so you got bloody loads of time yet
-
that looks sweet .. a red seat would set it off though
-
Thanks to a very tidy pad set from dialled bikes Mike (thanks) and getting a more fitting seat and post, I thought it was time to take a better pic of the widow maker. Now if I can just find the time to sort out the back wheel rubbing I am all set to ride in MKs OS 24" race.
I have also managed to get hold of a set of S&M C4 cruiser bars (4 peice bars, like mini castilos). I was going to put them on here but they are black, and the chrome Gaybars look great.

Now another episode of 'Ask Alex'....
Which S&M vid had Chris on the bonnet of a car singing 'we're not gonna take it' was it '44 something'?
...thanks Ask Alex!
-
Ah, now that is an interesting one. The better question was:
Who was in the car? (one person driving, one riding shotgun)
That was well funny. Dee was in the doorway as they drove past and said something like "THIS is what you can expect at S&M bikes" as Chris drove past singing.
Oh, and it was the first vid ... It had loads of names, I think "44something" was one, as was "Feel my leg muscles, Im a racer"
-
I'll have to fish it out now and watch it!
-
Well plug in a DVD writer at the same time and do us all a favor. I have been meaning to do it for ages but I still havent got the writer stodgy lent me working! I keep getting emails from people asking if Ive got the first S&M vid put on DVD yet!
-
My brother has a Video/DVD RW combo thing and has said he'd copy all of my vids for me!

-
Must have been a massive truck if you went for a walk in the back!

to much information :LolLolLolLol:
the bike looks cool though alex :daumenhoch:
-
Classic bike Alex - don't ever sell it!
Glad my old pads now live on such a classic bike, much better than sitting unloved in a box in my garage!
-
By the way, what's the story behind S&M naming a model after Dee Snider?
-
I know Dee Snider had a band called Widowmaker and that he and Chris are/were friends and there's also the famous hill-climb of the same name.
....but i think it's time for another episode of.....Ask Alex!
-
Didn't Dee Snider race BMX for a while too or did I dream that while listening to Twisted Sister? :LolLolLolLol:

Didn't Dee Snider race BMX for a while too or did I dream that while listening to Twisted Sister? :LolLolLolLol:
yeah man, check out the first page of this thread for pics of Dee fully racing BMXs! He was "on" the S&M team for a while racing 24" and they named the frame after his current band. The frame decals also said "stay hungry" and "we're not gunna take it", taken from Twisted Sister lyrics. Dee also popped up on the S&M Video mucking about about at S&M (still waiting for the answer to who was driving the truck?)
Mike, thanks for the kind words, and thanks again for the pads, they do look very happy.
-
I raced a mint camo green widowmaker at the end of 94 untill early 95 .Darkish green frame chrome forks, chrome profile cranks, hubs, chrome rims etc etc. Rode better than my Pro Class cruiser. Sold the S&M and bought my first Tri bike............what a bloody fool :idiot2:
Would swap the missus to have both those babies back :LolLolLolLol:
-
You dont remember what tyre you ran on the rear do you?
I cant get the comp3 Ive got on there to clear the frame!
-
hey alex,
could you try running a 24x1.50 tyre on it?
primo made the v-track and the dirt monster in that size,
i saw some intense micro-knobbies on usa bay in that size too, they might be too new school for the widowmaker though?
:daumenhoch:
-
widow maker is an old school hill climb event on an old school motor bike film called on any sunday
