Love that Challenger :smitten:

35lbs is about average for top end bruisers,
the likes of standard shorty...... and if anyone has one a ZIMA
-
waiting for a morales BTS to appear in this thread . . . .
or a haro mirra 540 or whatever that piece of solid iron shit was called
-
This was my Zima...
I've ridden a bunch of different bikes over the years and to me the weight of the bike doesn't even come into it, but then riding in the late 80's/early 90's you rode whatever you could get your hands on!
-
there was lad on road fols riding big black own made frame that was over 50lbs build up.
that challenger is an absolute beauty ,really really like that
my haro mirra s351 new chool was 36lbs bloody heavy .
-
yeh road fools 13. it was all square tubing. fooking mad
-
Another bike on my "bikes to finish" pile
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/r313/alexleech/Bikes/Haf6.jpg)
S&M Heavy as F**k with 1" clamp on Menstural Cycles forks.
1" clamp on redneck and Castilo bars
Phat ALex rims on PE hubs
Gen4 PA cranks with Kink chainring
V Monster tyres.
Just gotta get round to putting a chain and seat & post on it and I guess it needs 2 brakes a gyro and 4 pegs.
-
5" Yardstix!
-
Am i alone, but all the time it never ever bothered me how much my bike weighed?? could always pop a good bunny..
ps that standard shorty i got is only a bit over 7lb.......
i have a monster triple rim alex wheel somewhere.. it's like something off gladiator
-
na chris you aint alone buddy, this threads not a down put on the heavy bikes its just to see how we rode on bikes that did weigh a tonne but we still just got on with it.
i never once weighed stuff worried about whats weighed what ifact i was always adding bits.
and still managed some full on street n ramp riding.
but with todays feather weights i now notice how heavy these puppies where.
-
Oh no chris, you are dead right. It never even crossed my mind that the 4 tyres, 2 chainrings, bashguard, massive hubs, steel plate drop out covers, thick pegs and heavy frames were doing anything to hold back my riding. It could only make it better cos the bike lasted for a whole session. I think its like in the 90s, when you found an 80s bike and you thought "wow, how did we ever ride this skinny, flexy, short bikes". Now we can look at 90s bikes an ask "how did we ever get these things off the ground?". It will come round again and when NS riders have had enough of snapping cranks when they drop down too many stairs they will start making do with a little more weight ... maybe not to 90s standards tho!
-
what he said ::)
-
i never liked riding heavy bikes
i just found them uncomfortable
my bikes were always a "midweight". not featherweight like today, but always around the 30 lbs or less mark
-
s&m warpig complete bike 37.23lb
hoffman se bigdaddy bike 36.10lb
dirtbros bike 29.09lb
-
i liked the feeling on my STAs that i could roll through a wall and keep on going.. i LOVED the solid feel.. i've got all these new waffer bits waiting to go together when i'm allowed (!) a sunday and fly cranks and all that jazz... be interesting to see what it's like!
-
I dont wanna go of topic here, but I have heard nothing but bad things about fly and wombolt cranks. They dont seem to have a very long riding life. I liked the look of the fly ones but I think I will stick with profiles.
-
know what you mean.. but i'm not going to break them.. and i dodged customs to get them for 80 quid!

for me that was the best thing about the STA , they just felt so reassuringly solid!
you can land harsh 360's on them and not feel the back end flex!
and probably the most natural feeling geometry i've ever ridden, straight away it just felt right,
firmly in my all time top 5 bmx frames, :daumenhoch:
both mid and new school too!
the first time i sweated my bike weight was when i went from a "1 dirtbike with 36's to a hoffman deebo with 48's and 14mm axles, that thing just weighed shit loads, it felt so clumsy at the side of my db,
what i really wanted was a 1/18th holmes but just couldnt manage to get hold of one anywhere!
so i tried the ng holmes and it was worse!
the plus side looking back the was that the did feel way more solid and smooth, plus they seemed to carry there momentum better , kind of more stable in the air,
and i felt way more confident throwing them!
