May want to get some sorted out . If they are not annodised or painted what is the finish? Black ones always look painted, and red always looked annodised as fade in the sun eventually.
-
Well, after a lot of scientific testing.....
I decided that some are Anno and some are Paint
I came to this conclusion as some would not strip with NitroMors but would strip with Caustic Soda and Vice Versa.
There you go.
Case closed.
-
Nice one you have confirmed my what I thought. Has anybody had the pimp your ride guy re-anno some in red yet?
-
no you cant re-anno them cos the pins are steel.
the process of annodisation allows no steel to be present
Dave
-
Was going to pull the pins out
-
i was just gunna say are the pins not replaceable ??
-
yes, and there is an easy way to get the pins.
buy cheap Victor DX thingies and pull out the pins.
remember, the swap process will inlolve the freezer and the oven.
-
Mine are powder coated. :LolLolLolLol:

May be worth the effort to get a nice pair in red :daumenhoch:
-
so how could they be annoed then , cos the pins were red or blue as well and steel does not anno?
every pair i have seen have been plastic coated

-
Very good point, it gets more interesting by the minute, if the red were painted I wonder what the paint was?
-
Mr Rusty had a set that he'd had from BITD and all he did was use nitromoors and the colour just fell off.
-
The Inspector went to work on my black pair and they came up a treat. Just not got round to sending them to Dan yet. Anyone know where you can get end caps?
Cheers, JB :)
-
I used caustic soda on my red pair and they disintegrated !!! :LolLolLolLol:

end caps? i wouldn't know ::) ;D

Just to cause a little more confusion I am stripping a Red set of DX'S at the moment and nitromors aint shifting the paint that well. I think these ones may be annodised?
bodamus :-\
-
if nitromoors is shifting it at all it aint anno as it wont touch anno at all
-
So whats the paint? Defo looks like anno so what was the paint? Got some black ones too and they look anno , may be a special finish i.e Electrostatic partical spraying, which would explain why the finish is not too thick like plastic coating.

Weird , I've just stripped a red set with nitromors :LolLolLolLol:
easy peasy

Whats the crack with spindles on DXs... Can i use a set of 9/16ths Victor Spindles in Shimano DX and SX bodies?
-
aparently not, although it would be cool if you could.
-
i thought you could? must admit ive never tried it, spindles are usually the last bit to get too bad.
-
I do talk rubbish from time to time though.
I did just find out my NOS DX's will be here tomorrow. :smitten:
-
After the highjack :LolLolLolLol: I think we can come to the conclusion some are annodised and some are painted. Why god only knows, but that is the way of the world. Still not convinced the pins were the same colour as the pedals !
-
i have a red set and a black set. both are painted :coolsmiley: the red set has a finish very similar to glass paint, the black seem to be powdered but i'm not touching them cause they're NOS :smitten:
-
Pins on the ones on Vertigo don't look annodised.

They'll be the glass paint refurbed ones Zippy :LolLolLolLol:
-
Think it it reannodise what ever colour and the pins were not annodised on the annodised pedals. The painted ones look like they had painted pins, looks like Shimano both annodised and painted pedals anyway :LolLolLolLol: so we are all right. Think they may have done both dependant on who they probably contracted the work to, get that in my trade sometimes, same product different finish.
-
the red ones ive just stripped was paint as used inspector mores on em
they had been painted black aswell
-
i have stripped two pairs, both with the inspector and had no problems removing it :-\
-
You Can interchange the 9/16" an 1/2" axles with victors cos i've done it loads of times!
I currently have a pair of Gold DX's on 1/2" axles in my garage!
Used (of course) but with all pins intact altho the colour is worn.
Was thinkin of puttin em on 'The Bay' but if anyone is interested P.M me.
-
noddy you aint got a couple of spare pins have ya
the set i just bought are quite clean but a few pins bent lol
-
Chubs, I'm pretty sure I have some pins kicking around - leave it with me, I'll know by the weekend :)
