alloy forks> brave!
fine wet and dry sandpaper to even out the surface,
very fine to start the polish,
then go to the cloth and aluminium polish,
then as ronnie says,
rub it very hard,
alot.

go to ebay and look for polishing mops, usually in the motorcycle section (people use them to polish alloy frames and casings)then attach mops to a bench grinder or post drill and using the different grades of of polish and mops HEY HO shinyshiney and no sore wrists, but big black bogeys, so wear the correct PPE and do it in the shed. :)
