I'm pretty chuffed with picking it up. To be honest i had no real idea on it's worth etc, just thought it had to be a half bargain at that price.  ;)
I've been on the lookout for a new build over the past week and this one popped up this morning. Am def looking forward to this new project.
I don't actually have much of an idea on the parts for it...  Anyone have a pic of a proline (brute) stem i could get a look at please?
Thanx,    G.  :daumenhoch:

Have a trawl or search through the tech and resto section. I had the same prob when I build mine, there are loads of pics on there.  :daumenhoch:

There are usually a few Brute stems on ebay.com too

Thanx lads. The stem pic is just what i needed thanx Steve. The link has more than helped too thanx Jim'.   :daumenhoch:
I'll get proper pics, serial for year of manafacture and extras up in Tech and Resto when the package lands on my doorstep.  I'm sure there's going to be plenty of questions coming all of your way  :daumenhoch:.   Thanx again.   G  ;)

You will love it Grem, you should have grabbed the pad he has as well, they can be bloody hard to track down :daumenhoch:

I did consider it bud.  I don't mind paying plenty out for parts, but £50 for a single pad seemed a bit o.t.t. Especially then having to track down the other two for the set. I'll see how it goes in time me thinks.     G   :)

It is well worth the money, the original sets can cost up to £200, and I have only seen one set in the UK in the last 12 months!!
Why not contact the seller and see if he is up for a bid :daumenhoch:

I may have a pop at sorting a deal on the pad.  How to be sure it's not a repro tho?     G  ;)

tbh, even a repop will set you back good money, offer him 35/40 quid, might get it at that :daumenhoch:

I've messaged the seller.  I'll have to see now if they're up for some kind of light haggling  ???  Worth a try anyhow   :daumenhoch:    G.

It's hard to put a price on the pads, cos they don't come up very often. So £50 for a pad does seem expensive, but if it is in good condition and original, GET IT. I've seen single five popper frame pads go for £100  :buck2:

nice score grem. they are an excellent FF set for older folks as a rider too. that pad price is about right. i bought one on the bay last month for more than that but it was nos. the hardest one to find is the stem pad with the correct font. check my avatar as thats the one you'll need.
i wouldn't be surprised if your serial starts with "RB" or "RC" as yours has the BB brace. 1981 (RA) models didn't have that brace.

in case you havn't seen it here's mine although this is an old pic, i've since updated but havn't got newer pics yet.

There's some sweet bikes there lads.  :daumenhoch:  Plenty of ideas coming my way now.
No real luck on the pad. Fair play to him that he said he paid a lot more for it than the £50 he's asking.
I actually prefer the black/grey/red pads. May not be the spec i need , but i'd like them on mine at some point.    ;)  G.

the black/grey pads will not look out of place on a 1983 or later redline. they come up on ebay reasonably often and are cheaper to buy than the traditional white pads. although the ones with "carerra" are fairly rare. good luck with the build mate. don't forget the pics when you've finished it  ;)

I'll def be getting plenty of pics up once it's all here safe and sound. Looks as tho he won't be posting it til next weekend anyhow tho. Works in the city and won't be around til Saturday. So early next week i'll be expecting it to land  ;).
I will be keeping an eye out for the later padset on the 'Bay etc. No major rush tho. 401 flights, Redline chainring and other bits will be higher on the list. I'll be after a set of chrome V-bars for it. Will the Tioga H-bars be cool to put on it? I don't want to have a set of red or blue Redline bars.        :daumenhoch:   G.

G ,

Keep your eye out for Pro size (approx 28x8) Redline V bars in chrome , they come up now and then  :daumenhoch: .

If you cant find the real deal (bubble font redline) look out for mid school redline bars in pro size, the only difference will be the logo. :daumenhoch:

So then lads.  When the frame and forks arrive is there anything i should especially be looking out for?
Weak points in the frame/forks etc? Ratty's mentioned about the forks being a weak point. Will they usually bend before breaking? Will i be able to tell if they have moved at all?
Once i know the serial number and can work out the year, i'll be able to tell if the decals are correct? Or if they're repros. Anything else i can be forewarned about lads?  Thanx,   :daumenhoch:    Gav.

The frames are pretty sturdy, I have never broke one, and I never heard of one going, but tell tale stress signs are the chrome flaking or peeling round welds.

The forks are crap, they go at the drop outs, I got a spare pair which I had to fit a month ago and the have cracked already >:(

I think TBH the fork doubt has more to do with big old guys riding them on todays tracks , I had no problems bitd and raced mine hard for 1/2 seasons in 15/16 Expert ( and I was'nt 5 foot nowt either  ;D ) .

Must be the skill of the rider matt, cos I snapped mine bitd :-[, but i did ride mine 24/7 back then, at rom etc.. I got some 5" pro craft forks to try, they look stronger :daumenhoch:

Stu or Grubbs could probably answer this one really well.
i never broke mine BITD but then i was pretty skinny. i did break a pair of Tange TX 500's at the drop out, mostly because of my crap riding style  :-[

Grem i don't think you'll have any problems, ratty has answered what you need to know :daumenhoch:
