Right....after riding at Epic on saturday, my crank has developed a creaking sound >:( things like this annoy the fook out of me! so any ideas as to why? this may sound stupid but i haven't got a clue with these 3 piece jobbies.
It's just a standard tubular 3 piece with a sealed spanish BB that came stock on my DK.
Is it just cos it's poo poo? :-\

Enlightenment is here my son.
First question: Are the pedals the one's that came on the bike?
If so take them off and try the bike with some others to see if it still creaks, i had this problem on me race bike and i thought i had fecked the BB but it turned out to be a knackered spindle on the pedal :idiot2:
-
Master........no they are new pedals (well new-ish) but i might take them off and see if that helps?
Thank you anjayson :)
Zed also said to take off the arms and grease all the threads and re-tighten......will try this also
-
are the cranks pinch or splined?
pinch cranks like power/hollow bites just creak forever,
does sound like a pedal problem though
if it was me i'd
strip the entire crank/pedals down, clean out and re-pac ALL the bearings with finish-line grease,
then i'd build the whole assembly back up using a little coppergrease on the threads and crank fittings,
then if it still creaked i'd just buy a new set.
-
Just out of interest what pedals are you runnin?
-
Gusset something or others :-\
-
I had 1 week old DMR's and thay started creaking, just do a test swap with some others just to check.
-
i shall......thank you very much kind sir :daumenhoch:

if it's not the pedals it will probably be something else

You think?? :LolLolLolLol:

Dunno what the pedals are like but winder if it could be the bearing cups moving. With something like a DX that are alloy the hardened cups are pressed in. If all else fails might be worth getting some spray grease or oil into any gaps, and the repack the bearings normally.

Also could be the chain, slacken your wheels and set up the chain tension again(try this if all the above advice fails), failing that sell me the Dk for £50... everyones a winner :daumenhoch:

then once you've sold the DK, come and see me about getting a "Proper" bike.... ::)

try tightening the cranks, that usualy helps ::)

Had this recently and it was 2 things , first was a damaged and loose hub cone, second was loose bearings in my suntour pedals.
Cheers Steve
