Title: Re: What Do You Think Is The Rarest BMX Component
Post by: harris on June 12, 2007, 09:04 PM
its a strange jobby ,maurice meyer has a few parts left i think
it works from a rod inside the forks and a cam .pulls brakes open from the bottom

Title: Re: What Do You Think Is The Rarest BMX Component
Post by: darkersomeday on June 12, 2007, 09:27 PM
is that a lug welded onto the left fork leg or just the pic?

does the cable pull the tube and bracket up-wards opening the rollers?

for the time the work on that hutch brake is top notch, that revebge brake i had recently wasnt as good!
Title: Re: What Do You Think Is The Rarest BMX Component
Post by: harris on June 12, 2007, 09:32 PM
to tell the truth im not 100 % sure how it works completely but maurice pops on rad a bit
or vintage mostly i will ask to clarify.

Standard did a similar thing in the early 90's no doubt Rick Moliterno was inspired by his time on the Hutch team.
Title: Re: What Do You Think Is The Rarest BMX Component
Post by: darkersomeday on June 12, 2007, 09:50 PM
aaah its a plate that sits between the grooves in the rollers!

the tube pulls the bracket and the bracket/plate up into the rollers, are they cam shaped to spread the caliper arms?

so it would have bosses/mounts on the forks to carry the whole thing? like a more modern u-brake would need?

did hutch actually make that fooking gold plated stuff???!!
Title: Re: What Do You Think Is The Rarest BMX Component
Post by: harris on June 12, 2007, 09:53 PM
yes hutch had the gold stuff done for woodys rides, but the later stuff was done by someone else so im led to believe.

keep it simple, i say  :D that brake is not really a popular item, therefore makes it rare. too easy.

a popular item BITD that i haven't seen recently are Grab On MX3 grips. so if you're trying to build a 1982 Geg Hill GT replica, look out  :'(

those peregrine 16's are mad! how clean do they look! are they "16 rims dude? or is that the spoke count?

profile eh? a bit "off on one" sometimes , bless em!

did anyone hear they finally went from making there rear hub spacing 110mm instead of the fooking stupid 112mm? :D

i'm not buying a new full hub for the pleasure but its about time!

i would imagine front acorn mags are pretty rare as are those plastic sugino pedals NOS that were found on burners , the former cause they were piss weak and the latter because they were so common and so abused

The teeth on the cages look different , angled  :)

They're straight on XCII's  ;)

teeth are different and i recall the cages being undentable, maybe they changed them for the same reason they changed al;ot of stuff in the eighties, softer cages so they make on replacements

I'm pretty sure it's just the teeth, They were only made for a short period of time...   imagine an young kid hobbling over the finish line, mangled JMC under one arm...  severed leg under the other...  time for a redesign me thinks ;)

Quite a bit is getting difficult to get hold of now, but for manufactured items and not prototype / rider only issue parts it has to be Profile. They made some of the most hard to get hold of items in my opinion.

Not often you see the - Chrome Profile / Scott Pad Set, Horseshoe Pedals, Hutch Gen 1 Cranks (not Aerospeeds), Handle Bars including Freestyle, Lock Jaw Stem, Gen 1 Box Cranks and Coloured Spiders.
